Smile | Kirsteen | Large Photo

Hello, I've gone LARGE with an 8x12 print today. The photo was taken on my first trip to Orlando away back in 2005. We are posing in a photo op spot outside Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and a fellow tourist offered to take our photo (selfies and selfie sticks weren't even a thing then!).  

Grabbing some Simple Stories Say Cheese (what else, it would've been rude not to) I cut some border strips. I stuck the strips, one at the top and one at the bottom of the page and popped the photo in the middle using an adhesive runner.

I a got stuck into adding embellishments (which is my favourite part). I didn't go too crazy as I wanted the photo to be the main focus. I covered a small title on the border strip, at the top of my page as I wanted to add a cluster of clouds there and I wasn't keen on the font. The border strip is from one of the earlier Say Cheese collections and I much prefer the font's in Say Cheese III (call me picky). I added die cuts, chipboard, enamel dots and stickers from all 3 Say Cheese Collections.

Mid-Week Getaway | Polly's Papercrafts | Mood Boards

Morning lovelies!

This month on UKSA we are all about mood boards (which I'm sure you've gathered if you're a frequent visitor ✿) I've got to say I do love a good mood board - they're perfect for if you've got that 'staring-at-a-blank-page-not-knowing-where-to-start' feeling...don't tell the rest of the Creative Team, but I get that feeling rather often! 

This is the mood board I'm working with this month:

Those beautiful pastels with the confetti and the sequins and...oh the typewriter! All the heart-eyes from me! 

So I decided to take inspiration from the sequins. Now, if you've followed me before, you'll know I struggle with sequins. I can never seem to get the lovely random but perfectly placed look that I admire so much. Laura is brilliant with sequins, so if you struggle too I would recommend checking out her videos on YouTube. 

I went the easy option and created a shaker!

I used a vellum envelope that I got in the sale from Paperchase and filled that with an assortment of sequins that I had. There are some blue sequins and gold stars from Cocoa Vanilla as well as some different sizes and colours from a Project Life pack too. 

This month the Creative Team were sent some product from allthingssticky.com and included in my package were some coloured glue dots. At first, I was a tad confused on what the point of coloured glue dots were - BUT they came in incredibly helpful when adhering my vellum pocket. 

I used some of the pink, blue and yellow dots randomly on the back which meant that the glue blended in with the sequins. As you know, glue and vellum is a hard balance as it shows through but the way the dots were camouflaged in with the sequins definitely seemed a good answer!

Where's James? | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | Mood Board

Hiya Friends,

I'm up on the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube channel today with a video for my layout based on this months theme, Moodboards.

I am going to be completely honest here. I have never attempted a layout based on a moodboard before. I'll let you know by the end of this blog post what I liked and didn't like about using a mood board.

So first I set about having the moodboard open on my iPad so I could keep referring back to it when choosing my papers and embellishments.

So I started my layout by selecting my photo. I chose a photograph of my sister and my husband as I new that the pink colours in the photo would work well on this layout. The story behind the photograph is that my sister is obsessed with my husband. My sister is disabled and although she cannot talk, walk or even communicate, she does have her own little personality. That shines when my husband comes into the room. We say to her "Where's James" and she immediately turns her head and stares at him and then smiles. It is so sweet. 

For the title, I decided to use a mixture of alphas. Firstly I used some flat stickers in pink. These are from Simple Stories and are one of my favourite go to alpha. Next I added some gold Thickers to really tie in the gold from the mood board.

Gold is definitely one of my favourite colours to work with on my layouts. I don't think I'll ever tire of using gold accents. Especially gold glitter accents!!

I kept the embellishing on this layout really simple as it was already going to be quite busy with the amount of patterned paper that I wanted to use. So I kept it to using only gold glitter hearts which I used a small heart punch and punched them from gold glitter cardstock. I also used a few tiny word stickers as I didn't put any journalling on this layout and this created a little more interest. Any finally some sequins.  I used a mixture of pink sequins and clear sequins to tie in with the mood board. Now this is where I nearly have a nervous breakdown. When trying to open the pot of sequins, I wasn't holding onto the pot tightly enough and they slipped out of my hand and flew everywhere. All over my desk, all over my layout and all over my floor.  This was even captured on film as I was filming whilst this happened. You have to watch the video and laugh along with me!

To adhere the sequins down, I decided to use some coloured sticky dots which were supplied by  allthingssticky.com. These were fab when using behind clear sequins. It changed the clear iridescent to a pink colour when using the pink sticky dots.  This lead me to thinking about other ways I could use coloured glue dots  and thought to myself, wouldn't they look fab when adhering acetate! I'm going to be trying that out!

This layout came together very quickly once I had decided what papers I was going to use, based on the mood board. I grabbed my large heart punch and started punching hearts out. I then laid them in a heart shape. I then grabbed my punched gold glitter hearts and started placing them in random spots on the bigger hearts, ensuring they were spaced out evenly. I also punches out a few pink and mint hearts and scattered these around the hearts too. I matted my photo on the same light pink paper and placed this in the best position so that you can distinguish the heart shape and it best fit in the bottom right.

And I was finished. This layout took me about 40 minutes once I got going so really quick one to come together. I then spent a further 60 minutes picking up the sequins!

Oh yeah - nearly forgot. My opinion on working with a mood board has remained undecided. I struggled with really deciding the papers, and that is probably because I've been working with collections for too long!! I think I need to get back to some good old fashioned scrapbooking and choosing my own papers to mix together. Like back before I discovered Crate Paper!!

Dream | Terri Morris | Mood Board

This month we were given a choice of working with two fantastic mood boards. As soon as I saw this pretty pastel colour scheme I knew it was perfect to go with the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Free Spirit' collection. It's an older collection and I am determined to use up some of my ever growing stash.

It was fun to scrap with limited supplies as sometimes I am overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I can choose from. It was nice to have plenty of embellishments to play with and no worry about using them up as that was my aim. I really like how this layout has a column of focus approx 1/3 in from the left side. There is more white space here than I usually do but I love the effect.

allthingssticky.com gave the creative team a few items to give a try on this month's layout. I was sent some u-craft punch sheets. These are sheets of double sided adhesive that can be used with punches. I struggled to take the top layer off the punched out sticker to expose the adhesive but once I did and then added a layer of glitter it worker really well. I love the effect it gives with a few die cut embellishments layered over the top.

Sweet Child | Maria La Chica | Moodboard

Hello Scrap Addicts! Welcome once again to our blog! Maria here with you today with a layout inspired by an amazing moodboard.

Isn't it super amazing? In particular, I was drawn into the image with the colourful raindrops falling from a cloud of fabric scraps :) although all the images are awesome! So much inspiration to take from just one moodboard!
