Cute | Beth Moloney | Sewing

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for my first post as a team member for UK Scrap Addicts. As I'm sure you already know our theme for April is SEWING and the other girls have been producing some gorgeous layouts this month.

This layout turned out completely different to how I originally intended. I had decided to do a hand stitched background so I drew out a pattern with my Silhouette, pierced all the holes and literally spent 2 weeks sewing around all of the shapes (did I mention sewing is not my thing?!?) but then when I filmed the video only half of it was in the frame so I had to scrap that idea and start again.

I machine stitched a messy border around the edge of the white cardstock in pale blue thread...

I also added a few lines of stitching on the photograph where I knew I wanted the title and some embellishments to go...

Sticking fun foam under the photo and flowers helps give the layout some dimension...

The sequins and glossy stickers add some texture to the layout...

Hello Beautiful | Sarah (Lottie Loves Paper) | Sewing

Hello, it's Sarah here today!
So, we are continuing with the stitching theme ... I'll let you into a little secret ... before I found out the theme for April, I had only ever sewn on a couple of my layouts!
But, now that has changed - and I can't stop sewing on my pages! I love the texture that it adds.

For this layout I used the current kit from Lottie Loves Paper which has lots of the gorgeous new "Wild At Heart" collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio.

I used a stitching template to add three stitched hearts to my layout.

It's so easy to pierce the holes through the template into the paper using a Pokey Tool and then using embroidery thread stitch the design onto the paper.

The "Mariposa" sheet of patterned paper from the collection is full of little butterflies which just had to be fussy cut and used as embellishments.

The "Hello Beautiful" from the "Wild At Heart" chipboard made the perfect title.

Hello lovelies, it's Emma here with you today and as you know, we are talking sewing on UK Scrap Addicts this month. Whether it's hand-stitching, faux stitching, machine stitching or any other kind of stitching you can think of, we're probably talking about it! 

Now, we all know that hand-stitching can be time consuming and it's possibly not for everyone but it does look stunning on a page, doesn't it? 

For my layout this month, I attempted to keep it simple (especially as I have been short of scrappy time this month - not good!) but of course, simple is never quite as easy as it looks, is it?

I decided to do a 12x12 page, using white cardstock as my base. I also used the FREE daffodil cut file  that can be found here. I used the cut file as a stitching template rather than its original intended use. 

The yellow patterned paper in the background is a piece from Pinkfresh Studios Indigo Hills collection and its just the perfect warm shade of yellow. 

I just love the look of the white-on-white stitching - it adds texture without being overwhelming. I wanted there to be plenty of white space on this page with pops of yellow and your attention being drawn to that gorgeous (I might be biased!) pooch in the middle!

I'm really happy with how this page came together, even if my mojo has gone on an Easter holiday without me!

Bloom & Grow | Kirsteen | Sewing

Hello, it's Kirsteen on the blog today. I'm here to share another sewing layout with you. Straight off; I. Do. Not. Sew. Material. Ever. but... I do sew on paper. Don't be put off if you can't sew a button (neither can I) but I love to sew on scrapbook pages. I hand sew my crafty projects. I do have one of those little sewing machines but it lives in its box unloved and unused.

I decided to sew on this layout because I wanted to add a border and a little depth, interest and generally make the page a little more tactile. Stitching is a great way to pull a load of elements together and to give a page some extra detail. I drew the border with a simple pencil and a ruler.

Can we take a minute to swoon over embroidery thread. I use a DMC Thread Storage Box, and spent a very therapeutic few days wrapping all of the treads around the DMC Plastic Floss Bobbins. Is it sad that this makes me stupidly happy.

I used a Bazzil Basics template to pierce the holes and a pokey tool to make the holes bigger. I use the thicker end of the pokey tool to ensure the holes are big enough for the embroidery thread.

Once I'd pierced all the holes I rubbed out the pencil marks. Make sure you don't brush any of the rubber shavings onto your page, especially if there is any sticky residue on your page as the bits of rubber will stick! 

I decided to go with a dark blue thread to bring my page together and to really make the border stand out against the grey wood grain background.Supplies are Simple Stories Bloom and Grow.
