Tokaido | Amy Kattenbelt | Old and New collections

Good Morning Scrappers. Amy here, sharing a cleans and simple layout that combines a very old collection with a brand new one.

The old collection I am using is called "All About A Boy" by Lori Whitlock which was manufactured by Echo Park in 2013.

The new collection I am using is called "We can just stay home" by Michelle Coleman which is manufactured by Photoplay in 2020.

I thought the two collections would work well together because they have similar yellow, orange and green tones. They also have similar images of spinner game pieces. This influenced my choice of photo and theme of my layout.

I kept the design really clean and simple, a style I don't often do. But I think it allows the colours to really pop. It would be a very easy layout to Scraplift, should you wish.

Why not share your layouts that use really old stash combined with new stash, join us over on our Facebook group!

We will be back at the start of July to share our new theme. So be sure to check back for that!

Take care, and stay safe,

Celebrate | Kirei Baldwin | Combine old and new collections

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here with a layout using up a very old paper collection by a company that no longer exists sadly... Sassafras! I've been hoarding their papers for ages so decided now was the time to dig them out and actually use them, as this month's challenge to 'mix old and new collections' was perfect for that! The collection is called 'Sunshine Broadcast' and features yellows, soft greens and peach shades that went really well with the newer Heidi Swapp 'Storyline Chapters' collection...

One of the Sassafras papers had a load of different strips on it so I cut them all up and layered them down one side of the layout along with some strips cut from the Heidi Swapp papers.

I added gold stitching with the sewing machine to each strip and then distressed the exposed edge of each strip. Note my error... I initially thought I would have the strips down the left side of the page but once I had attached them all I thought it looked better on the right but it did mean the letters on the strips were now upside down! Anyway I decided it wasn't too bad and I could live with it...

Then I mounted my photos onto one of the Sassafras patterned papers and distressed the edges, then layered them up with some giant Sassafras journaling stickers before sticking them down. I used foam pads on the top edge of my photos to add dimension.

I didn't have any Sassafras embellishments so pulled out the Heidi Swapp ephemera pack and looked for anything in the same tones as the papers I used.

I wanted to add a bit more gold into the embellishments so pulled out a Thickers set and added some gold leaves and hearts.

Then I added a title using the word 'Celebrate' from a Thickers set and finished off with some journaling.

Thank you for popping by, I hope you are inspired to dig out some of your older stash and get it used! As you can see from all the fab inspiration from the Creative Team this month it doesn't matter how long you have had your stash it can work perfectly well with one of the newer collections! If you do give it a go don't forget to share your layout over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook group...

Happy scrapping!

Let's Get Lost | Jackie Ashton | Old & New Collections

Lets Get Lost ...

I used patterned paper from Carta Bella - Pack Your Bag (2018) as my base paper.

I then added patterned paper from Simple Stories - Travel Notes (2018) and Simple Stories - Going Places (2020).

I cut each square to measure 5.5 inches and glued them to my background paper, then I decided I wanted to add some additional texture so I added some machine stitching.

Adding a small patterned papers underneath each photograph.

I finished the layout with some wood veneer and a acrylic word in the middle of the page as my title.

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to share your layouts over on our Facebook group.

Till next time,

Happy scrapping

Karen Moss | Love You | Old and New

Hello, Karen here with my second post for this month and this time it's a layout.

I have to confess I 'went off piste' for this one as the challenge was to use old and new collections but I have used old and new stash!

I have combined some papers from a French company called Florileges with some very old brads, eyelets and buttons.

There is a process video showing how this layout came together here and you can see what the other members of the UKSA design team have been making this month on our Facebook page and Instagram feed.

As always, we are really keen to see what you make so please upload your layouts to our Facebook page.

Until next time, I hope you find the time to create something that makes your heart sing.

Kindness is always in style | Sam Ball | Combining Old and New Collections

What makes a collection new and not old? Some will class an old collection as anything other than the latest releases, whereas others might decide that an old collection is anything pre dating 2019. This is what I settled on being the bench mark, and soon discovered I have way too many ‘old’ collections!

Some of these ‘old’ collections were bought but I couldn’t bear to use them, whilst others have been so well used there are only scraps left to play with.

When deciding on which collections to combine, I used my photo as the starting point. I noticed that Snapchat had a couple of new filters, one of which was B&W but with a pink illuminated heart, in a cool portrait orientation.

I pulled out some collections that appeared to have similar pinks to the heart on the photo including ‘Girl Squad’ by Pebbles in 2017, ‘Dream Big’ by Pretty Little Studio and also made in 2017, ‘Happiness’ by Cocoa Vanilla Studio, launched in 2019 and ‘Bohemian Dreams’ also by Pretty Little Studio in 2019.

I was especially drawn to a cut-apart paper that had a beautiful black lady on it along with the sentiment of ‘kindness is always in style’ and particularly apt in light of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. As this 3 x 4” journaling card also had pale teal in it, the layout became a mixture of both pink and soft aqua.

I introduced a zip detail as a nod to the fact that we need to ‘undo’ the wrong doings of the past, along with a heart cut file to represent that I care and butterflies to illustrate new beginnings and a better future ahead.

Have you played along this month? It’s a great way to use up old stash whilst enjoying new collections too!

And don’t forget to share your layouts over on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram if you’ve played along this month...

Not Going Out | Guest Designer - Denise Holmes | Combining Old and New Collections

Hi everyone, Denise here, I was delighted to be asked to be a guest designer this month.

The theme this month is to use old and new collections on your layout. At the beginning of lockdown I had a really big tidy up of my crafty stash so I remembered I had found some old Webster's Pages papers and embellishments, with perfect wording about staying home and rainbows, so I decided to use these on my layout.

One of the background papers was an older one too.

The colours of the Webster's Pages were very pink, peachy and summery so I went with those colourways using some new papers, together with a recent perspective for my title -  'Not Going Out'.

Considering the phrases were from an older collection, they were perfect for a layout for during this weird lockdown phase we are going through!

Lets Go ! | Sheena Rowlands | Combine old & new collections

Hi there UK Scrap Addicts, Sheena here again.

Our June challenge is to use both old and new collections on the same layout. Some of you may find this harder than others as a challenge. I've learnt over the past few years that I'm really drawn to the colours of scrapbook products rather than collections so was really looking forward to having a dig about in my stash to complete this challenge.

Lets Go!

The more I thought about mixing collections I decided it might be easier with a theme so I pulled out my travel ranges and began there.
As my older collections I found Crate Paper - Sunny Days & All Heart and for my new collection - Simple Stories - Going Places.

I found tags and project life cards and arranged them as my base for this page. When I was happy with the coverage I adhered them down & printed my 4 small photos to tell my story.

Next I looked for embellishments for my tags in the ephemera and chipboard pieces. I kept adding till I was happy with the look then added a little journaling to complete the page.

We would love to see your challenge layouts over on our Facebook group.
Till next time x

Fun Times With All Of You | Zola28 Zoe Hailey | Old and New Collections

So it's my turn to share my creation on the blog today.

I don't mind admitting, I normally scrap from one collection per layout so themes like these always challenge me. Even more so because I started with one piece of 12x12 paper and tried to produce something with it!

I had  a pink piece of paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Midnight collection along with a large die cut and some ephemera which I was planning to 'stash bust!' It's one of my favourite collections and it was all I had left. I wanted to combine this with embellishments I had left from a recent kit so I combined this with Maggie Holmes Sweet Story Chipboard stickers.

On the large die cut I  coloured it using the Vicki Boutin watercolour markers and then added some extra gloss with the Vicki Boutin Silver Glaze. I machine stitched the die cut with white cotton to add some further dimension.

I created my left and right clusters of photos , layering pieces of ephemera and chipboard. Adding lots of foam for dimension and shadows. I needed to add some black to the page to balance the title so I distressed the top and bottom and mounted it on card. I added some splatters of black Indian ink around the page to balance the colour.

I really like how this turned out and I'm so pleased to have used up the last of a collection; making way for more new supplies!

Please share what you create this month in UK Scrap Addicts Facebook Group, happy creating !

Magical Memories | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | Combine old & new collections

Hey everyone!!

So it's the 1st of the month and I am here to share with you the topic for the month and my layout. The new theme we are focusing on is combining new and old stash to create a layout.

My tip for being able to combine old and new stash is to find common colours within the products. If you're working with pastels then be sure to find pastels that co-ordinate or if you're working with bright summery colours then match it up with the colours and theme.

I always find it much easier to work in a collection but sometimes use collections from the same designer together and these works well more often than not.

I find that the "Disney" collections are another way to combine old and new stash so here is my take on the theme using some new stash from Simple Stories "Say Cheese 4" collection and some older stash from Echo Park "Magic and Wonder" collection.

Both collections feature a lot of the same colours, blue, red, yellow and black so it made it super easy to combine the two to make this layout. I actually used embellishments from multiple different ephemera packs and chipboard sheets to create this layout I think I used maybe 4 different collections on this on total and although our theme is to incorporate older stash (which I did) it was also a great exercise to show that I could also use multiple collections together too.

And here is the finished layout!! I really am pleased with how this turned out and it's always great to get another Disney layout completed!
