I Told The Stars About You | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | Sketch

I was absolutely thrilled when Laura Rumble agreed to design a sketch for us to use this month!!

Sketches are brilliant if you are ever stuck for inspiration and design as they give you a great starting point. They can be interpreted in so many different ways and it's great to see how different layouts look when all using the same sketch.

So I am kicking off the month with my layout......

I used some papers from CVS and grabbed my Big Shot and some star dies and started die cutting a whole load of layered stars. For the largest star I layered 4 papers and for the medium I layered 3. I also added in a little velum here and there within the star clusters.

I then ran these through my sewing machine to stitch down the middle. This enabled me to be able to lift the edges of my stars to create some shadowing.

I then started work on my background. I used a white Posca paint pen to add some ink splatters in a semi circle shape and added on top some gold Heidi Swapp colour shine.

I then arranged the stars in a semi circle to follow the shape as shown on the sketch. I added some wet glue to the back of the stars and secured them down. I then punched out some smaller stars to fill in the gaps around the larger stars. I added some more ink splatters on top too!

I did a simple mat behind my photo and nestled that in to the bottom of the half circle.

Finally I finished it all off by using a white gel pen to hand doodle some stars into the little gaps that were left.

And I'm chuffed with how this layout came out.

Be sure to check back here again soon for more sketch inspiration. And if you want to join in then please head on over to our Facebook group!!

There is also a process video for this layout which can be found here -https://youtu.be/0HsAbr3mML8

Embrace Today / Sketch / Jackie Ashton

Hi scrappers, Jackie here with this month theme - a sketch by PageMaps.  I find using a sketch a great starting point, especially when my mojo goes for a wonder.  They are a great way to get myself going again, either by following the sketch exactly or by starting with a few of the basic elements on the sketch design and going from there.

Heres my take on the sketch, I’ve followed the sketch as closely as possible.

The paper ranges I’ve used are a few old collections from Studio Calico and Echo Park which were dated 2013, obviously needed to be used, along with some a recent collection from Pink Fresh Studios - Boys Forte.

For the title I’ve used a Acrylic words from Bella Blvd, which I have had in my stash for a while.

And here are a few close ups

Hope you have enjoyed seeing the different way the design team have used this sketch this month, and how versatile sketches can be.

Till next month

Week 38 - Pocket Pages | Sarah Toward | Sketch

Hi there

I am going to share with you today how I used a sketch to get me started on one of my Pocket Page layouts.

I quite often turn to sketches for my scrapbooking layouts, but I'd never used one to help me with my Pocket Page layouts.

I chose to use Laura's sketch, and thought the best way to use it would be to base my title card on the sketch.

I started by using my watercolours for some random painting as the background for my main focal point to sit on.

I'd already decided which papers I was going to use on my layout so I used some of the off cuts to create the layered focal point for the layout.

To finish off the title card I added some sequins, rub-ons, chipboard and bakers twine to the layout.  I often leave my title card until last as I'm unsure on how I want it to look, using the sketch really helped me with this and meant I finished it in super quick time and was able to move onto the rest of the layout.

I'll definitely use a sketch to help me design my title card again.  This layout came together really quickly as I didn't spend hours wondering where to start.

I used the Jubilee collection by My Minds Eye which I've had in my stash untouched for sometime, it included papers, rub-ons, chipboard and photo overlays.  I supplemented it with sequins, doilies and bakers twine.

Thanks for stopping by today and supporting U.K. scrapbooking.  Come back again soon to see what we've been getting up to.

xoxo

Traveler's Notebook | Polly's Papercrafts (Emma) | Sketch

Hi lovelies, it's Emma with you again today with a blog post and video all centred around Laura's fabulous sketch for this month. In fact, spoiled as we are, the Creative Team had not one but two sketches to choose from this month. The other was designed by the lovely Susan and is a 2 page sketch. Alas, try as I might I could not make the fabulous double pager work for me, though I did really try as a challenge for myself.
(And yes, I did just use the word alas!)

So here it is. The sketch that Laura designed.
It uses a wonderful bit of mixed media in the background (my guess would be watercolour), a single 4x4 photo and lots of layers.

Now, of course there's a bit of a story with this one for me. I did originally do a 12x12 page using a toddler photo of myself with lovely pink ink smooshed about using the packaging technique. Tons of fun was to be had.... except when I went to edit the video, it was non-existent. *Face-palm* I hadn't recorded my session of inkiness after all. Sad times.

Have no fear however, I changed tack. Being a creative and all, I figured I could do this. No worries. In the end, I created a spread in one of my handmade traveler's notebooks - and I kind of love it!

I used a Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams paper that had lots of frames on and fussy cut ALL of them, even if it was only half a frame hanging off the edge of the paper. I knew I wasn't going to use the pattern on the B side so now I have a lovely pile of frames to use as layering pieces.

I used a Mister Huey's Pretty in Pink spray which I watered down to get the paler pink in the background and paired that with the pink stripe paper to mat my photo on, which also came from the Chasing Dreams collection.

The chipboard hearts I used are actually from Pinkfresh Studio's Indigo Hills collection which were perfect as they had a similar shade of pale pink and hints of black and grey.

So that's it from me, head on over to the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube channel to see the full process and don't forget if you are inspired by any of our creative endeavours and share something of your own, remember to include #ukscrapaddicts so we can find you!

Until next time...

Baby Girl | Kirsteen | Sketch

Hello, Kirsteen here with my take on this months theme: sketches. I LOVE a sketch, esepecially when the crafty mojo has up and left. A sketch helps you to get cracking, stop obsessing (that you're not doing anything) and usually produces something pretty awesome. What's not to love? And you can totally interperate a sketch which ever way you choose. It's a great place to start, creativity on hols or not.

I picked this sketch. It's a huge leap from my recent projects (circles and filling pages full of embellishments is my current bag) but I wanted to challenge myself to try something a little different.

I picked a photo of my neice (I have a scrapbook on the go for all eight of my neices and nephews and my own two little men). I cropped it down to 4x4. With scrapbooks for ten little people all under the age of nine, I'm not short of a baby collection or two. I went with Crate Paper's Little You. I can't tell you how much I love this collection. The chipboard is so thick, the quailty is really impressive. I've bought this collection about five times! I'm not kidding. It's so pretty.

I decided to go for a busy patterned paper for my background. I'll admit it, all that 'white' space was making me quite feel uneasy. I picked this gorgeous grey star print called Perfect. It matched the black and white image of my neice 'perfectly'.

Then, I set about adding embelishments, keeping them close to my photo and all at the bottom of the page in line with the sketch. I didn't stick anything down too much, pressing a little on a corner here and there to hold it in place so I could still move bits and pieces around.

I've used chipboard, stickers and one of the diecut pieces from the collection. I wanted to cluster them around the photo but didn't want too many to go over the photo as I really wanted the photo to stand out.

The chipboard in all it's goodness! Finally, once I was happy I stuck everything down. I'm really chuffed at how this page turned out and I'm in no doubt that had I not used a sketch I'd still be sitting here at my desk shuffling papers. And as it's (Inter)national Scrapbook Day that would've been a tragedy!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you all had a great National Scrapbooking Day (I'm off to have a sticky beak at all of your creations).

Now and then | Maria La Chica | Sketch

Hello everyone and welcome once again to UK Scrap Addicts!  Maria here with you today, sharing a layout that was not easy...  Sometimes even the most seasoned scrapper struggles, so this one was one those layouts that started as one thing and ended as something completely different!

For this layout I wanted to use Susan's double page sketch, however, I had this idea in my head to make it work as a single page layout.  So with a certain degree of "artistic license", I have interpreted it a bit and I think in the end you can still see where I got the inspiration from.  In fact, I think my second layout is actually more similar to the sketch than my first layout was!

That is the beauty of sketches.  You can do pretty much anything with them.  They are a great starting point and you can follow them as loosely or closely as you want!

So here is my finished layout and the sketch it was based on:

So let me tell you a story. I don't believe in ghosts or supernatural beings, however, I believe there was some sort of entity preventing me from creating this layout. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. First, my cut file didn't cut well (my fault, I know), then I managed to stick some paper all crooked, and finally, I just wasn't happy at all with how it was looking... So I decided to start all over, but the problems didn't stop there! I accidentally put glue on top of one of my photos, and when I went to reprint it, my printer had run out of black ink! So the photo is not looking great, I will have to reprint it in the future... Oh, and I also had problems with the editing of the video! As I said, maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Anyway... I still managed to pull the layout through, I think :)

A few more closeups of my layout:

And here is my video. I hope you don't laugh too much at my struggles (I won't blame you if you do, I laugh at myself too!) and really wish you are inspired to create with this sketch!

Read you soon!
