This post is part of the National Scrapbook Day Blog Hop hosted by
If you are following the hop you should have arrived here from Susan. To be in with a chance of winning the Blog Hop prize you will need to comment on this post (and on all the blogs in the hop) and when you have completed the hop, return to the Blog Hop thread on “For The Love Of Pretty Paper” and leave a comment to let us know you have been all the way around the hop. Visitors who leave the same (or seen to be the same by the Organisers) comment on all the blogs will not be eligible for the prize. The Closing date for Blog Hop entries is Monday 8th May at 10pm. Only UK addresses are eligible for the prize due to postage costs. Good Luck!
The theme for the Blog Hop is “Favourite Technique”
My favourite technique is to gather random things from my desktop and use them up rather than tidy them away!
It's a good excuse not to tidy!
As you can see in my video I just gathered things from pots and piles, and a few pieces from my Silhouette Cameo cutting binge.
I find wood veneer tricky when it looks like wood so I often colour it. With a coat off gesso pretty much anything will stick on a wood veneer.
This is one of my favourite techniques because nothing is wasted, every tiny scrap can find a home on a 'desk layout'. Also, your layout is not expensive! I feel guilty if I use lots of expensive embellishments on one layout.
After your visit here please hop on to Amanda and if you lose your way or you want to start at the beginning of the hop you can find the complete list on the Facebook page here or on Fiona’s Blog.
Happy Hopping!
I have a tray on my desk for this very reason - to collect little bits and pieces. I don't colour wood veneer very often, must try that. Lovely page
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Although I'm very particular with my layouts 😂
ReplyDeleteWow, never tidying up....now there's a good idea! Thanks for the inspiration xx
ReplyDeleteI need to do this more 'cause I hate clearing up! Haha x
ReplyDeleteGood idea, i have just started to leave a few sprays and inks on my desk and a pouch with ephemera and embellishments in. Love the Alderney stamp, i live in Guernsey
ReplyDeleteOne never thought about colouring wood veneer before now going to try this.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes do this with bigger bits & pieces & I like to color wood veneer also
ReplyDeleteI so need to work on this. I am useless at using up my tiny pieces and often scrap with a fort of left over scrappy bits piled up around me. I wish I had your discipline and creative imagination to be able to turn my leftovers into such pretty pages x
ReplyDeleteI love adding bits and pieces at random left on my desk to my pages -they usually create nice surprise! A great tip for using gesso on wood veneer shapes!
ReplyDeleteI collect all my bits and pieces but never use them. It's time I did 😊 Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteI often keep interesting bits of paper but a lot goes in the bin as I don't have a dedicated scrap space so have to tidy up so we have somewhere to eat. Lovely idea and true use of the word "scrap" booking.
ReplyDeleteWish I read this post 2 hours ago. I've just finished sorting scrap paper in piles of ' Bin & keep' my bin pile has just gone in the Bin & my keeps have been sorted into colours and shapes and sizes. Lol. Great blog hop thankyou it's so nice to see a UK hop. X.
ReplyDeleteNot sure all the bits on my desk would fit on a page LOL. Love this idea though, Laura, and that's a super page :)
ReplyDeleteSusan x
Ooooh I think I've already commented on your blog lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, not sure the control freak in me could manage it though 😆
ReplyDeleteI really have to stop clearing up in between each layout ;-) I love this idea but I'm so OCD about a clear desk there's never much there. Good excuse to be a bit messy I think!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful layout and great way to use up every bit :)
ReplyDeleteAlways love your layouts Laura and sometimes I do the same using leftovers but need to do more of it
ReplyDeleteI used to collect all my little bits of paper as I had a Sapphire machine but it stopped working so now I clear as I go. :(
ReplyDeleteDefinitely will try this. We end up with so many bits left over. Lovely layout ☺
ReplyDeleteLove your style, Laura. Who can bear to throw anything away!!?? Well done.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.
Margaret
So colourful :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to clear away inbetween lay outs, but maybe next time I will do this instead
ReplyDeleteSome great ideas Laura especially as I hate tidying up! I shall also try a coat of gesso on my wood veneer
ReplyDeleteLove how you have used up your bits and bobs and created a super page in the process, excellent. BJ
ReplyDeleteHow clever you are Laura. I will try this, but I may never post a resulting LO, I rather suspect it will look a bit rubbish! Fascinating that you don't use the laser wood pieces 'naked' very often.....I never cover or colour mine. I suspect it's idleness.....!
ReplyDeleteFab 'technique' Laura :) we all need to do this more! Love that you've altered the wood veneer by coating it is gesso first, genius xx
ReplyDeleteThis is a technique I use often. Love your layout
ReplyDeleteLovely, especially like the coloured wood veneer & might give this a go. I'm trying to use left over bits and bobs in my Travellers Notebook which I keep on my desk. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAltered wood veneer, I like it. Thanks for sharing your layout and you techniques.
ReplyDeleteI use this technique a lot! 😂 I tend to colour my wood veneer with sharpies - will definitely explore some other ideas. Beautiful layout.
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of bowls on my desk with bits and bobs in that I can't be bothered to put away. It's such a good idea as they get used as they are within reach x
ReplyDeleteOooo, interesting technique. I'll have to try that.
ReplyDeleteI love this technique of yours Laura. Not one that I could do as I craft on the dining room table and have to clear completely away after playing! Great idea though.xx
ReplyDeleteCute layout. I also find wood veneer difficult to use without changing colour or texture or both. At the moment I'm enjoying faux rust or patina techniques
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely things you had 'left over' - all your layouts must be so pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy desk is so small if I don't tidy everything away at the end it would be a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteI could probably fill several albums with layouts made with this technique, looking at my work surface right now... 😉 But seriously, this would be a proper challenge, considering that everything have to make sense and be in context on my layouts... I might just try it, just to stretch my boundaries...
ReplyDeleteI so very rarely do this, but it looks like an easy way to get a quick extra page from a crafting session.
ReplyDeleteMy desk is also my dining room table so everything always has to be cleared as soon as I finish a scrap session! Although I'm glad as I'm pretty sure the whole dining room table would be non-existent otherwise haha.
