Brilliant Weekend | Kirei Baldwin | Black background

Hi there UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here sharing my layout for this month's theme which was to use a black background... not my normal style but I always like a challenge!

I decided it was a good opportunity to stash bust so went through some of the older collections I have and ended up with Pink Paislee 'Moonstruck' as it had a lovely black script paper that was perfect for a background. Think I've been hoarding this collection as it was too nice to use...

I used four small square photos from a 40th birthday celebration last year, they have these odd purple blobs on them that were from the disco lights in the bar... not ideal but I still had to scrap them!

One of the papers had lots of large roses on it that were just asking to be fussy cut, I then used them layered up on both sides of the photos.

I added a small torn rolled feature at the top and bottom of the page.

From the matching ephemera I added a journaling card and the word 'brilliant' for half the title. Finishing off with gold Thickers and some flicks of gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine.

I hope you feel inspired by this month's theme... please don't forget to share your layouts over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page as we love seeing everyone's take on the theme!

Thanks for looking and happy scrapping!

Howdy Partner / Jackie Ashton / Black Background

Hi crafter, Jackie here with my take on this months theme - using black cardstock.  I think using black cardstock allows my photographs to lift off the page more - if that makes sense.

I have a series of photographs taken last year when we watched the Wild West Show at Disneyland Paris and had already decided that when working with these photographs I would use black cardstock.  So this months theme was perfect for me to get another layout completed for my son’s album.

Howdy Partner

I used Carta Bella - Cowboy Country collection, which is just perfect for all these photographs of the Wild West Show.

I kept the layout very simple, adding a simple paper matt underneath my square photograph.

I also added a border to the top of the cardstock, using two different patterned papers, and border punched one of them.  After gluing the border in place, I added some hand-stitch details over the top.  Using a star stencil from my stash and  Tim Holtz squeezed lemonade oxide ink,  I added a few star details to break up the dark background, the coloured in ink looks cream on the black cardstock and not yellow.

I choose 3 tags from the collection and intertwined them together with black crocheting thread.

I added various die cuts from the collection, and some punched ‘Mickey head’ which I added white line around the edge for added definition against the black cardstock.

I added the title using Jillibean Soup alphabets and added some machine stitching over the top for added details.

I added some stenciled star and used Tim Holtz squeezed lemonade oxide ink, which looks cream on the black cardstock and not yellow.

Don’t forget to stop by our Facebook page and share with us what you are doing, we would love to see.

Till next time

Happy scrapping

Dream It - Do It | Karen Moss | Black Background

Hello, hello - Karen here with my black background layout.

I have been wanting to recreate a page similar to this one, which I had seen on the Paper Artsy blog.  Unfortunately, it hasn't been linked to the original designer so I am unable to credit them.

I loved how they have used paint to merge the photo into the background and this was the effect I was aiming for.

I have also added some texture past dots and butterflies (making a right mess in the process).

If you would like to see how I created my page then grab a cuppa and pop on over to our YouTube channel where you will find my process video.

Don't forget to check back to see what the other awesome UK Scrap Addicts ladies have been making this month.

Lisa-Jane Johnson | Black Background | You Say I'm a Witch

Hi everyone, it's Lisa-Jane from Pretty My Page here today with my black ground project.

When we were given this brief I must admit, I panicked a bit!  Then I thought of various themes where I might have used a lot of black before.  If I had been thinking rationally I could have easily created a layout around my son playing rugby as his kit is black, red and yellow.  But instead I went to another of my great loves - Halloween!

I created a cut file based on a quote I had seen on various Pinterest boards and I used this as the main focus of my layout with some orange patterned paper behind.  I also added a border of paper from the Simple Stories Vintage Halloween collection that I was using for this layout.  This breaks up the black a bit more and enabled me to use more pattern on the layout - I do love me some pattern!

Because the quote is quite big, I only had a small amount of room for my photo and embellishments.  I managed to squeeze in some more colour and witchy themed goodies from the collection and of course I had to add some enamel dots for more pops of colour.

I'll let you in on a secret (if you haven't seen my Instagram post) that this was the second version of this layout - I knocked over a bottle of very runny glue and it went on the black cardstock.  The glue does dry clear and I thought I had cleaned it up well but it turns out that even clear glue shows up on black cardstock and so I had to start again!  Every day is a school day and all that...

With love and colour

Soar | Sarah Costain | Black Backgrounds

Sarah here today with my take on this months theme of Black Backgrounds.

I decided to go for a bright and bold layout today. My background was created using Impasto Paints and a stencil from Thompsons craft supplies. I used the paints straight from the tube, they're thick so go through stencils really nicely.

My papers were layered up with foam and embellishments in between to create lots of height and texture.

I added black gesso to my embellishments then when dry added more of the paint from the background to create some continuity.

My title was a quote sticker that I popped up on more foam and framed with some of the feather embellishments from Artful Days.

A few splashes of white paint and some enamel dots added a finishing touch.

You can check out how I created this layout over on the UKSA YouTube Channel.

Thanks for joining me and have a happy scrappy day :)

Hello Kitty | Elaine King| Black backgrounds

Good morning one and all...

Welcome to my post for the UK Scrap Addicts Creative team using the prompt for March which is, as you already know, Black backgrounds! This is one of my favourite schemes so this was just perfect for me.

So, without further ado.. here is my layout.

As you can see I used very little patterned paper for this challenge but I did use a hot pink sheet of card-stock too. I first gutted this so I had enough to mat my photo with some left over for another project. Both sheets of card were bought from Merly Impressions

Once I had done this I trimmed the black card down and mounted on the hot pink. To set out the brads I used a PinkFresh template. I changed it up a bit by adding the large brad in the centre to anchor my twine, instead of (as they suggested) winding the twine around lots of the outside brads.

Once I had done this I layered the photo on some scraps of pink themed patterned papers and added the title. These are Thickers that I got from a kit from Lottie Loves Paper last year.

I added the pink polka dot Rosette and some pretty embellishments from my stash.. a quick and simple layout!

Simple but quick, and, in my opinion effective... not to mention a great way to use us those brads!

Iridescent Wedding | Black background | RamblingsofGeo

Hello everyone,

I have followed this month's theme with a 12x12 black cardstock, i have used the Vicki Boutin Iridescent texture paste, along with some Black texture paste and pushed it through a Vicki Boutin stencil from the most recent Mind the scrap mixed media Kit.

The texture paste is beautiful in person, there is large chunks of glitter along with very fine particles making a lovely shimmery effect.

I hope you find inspiration from this layout, and carry on to show your creations within the UKSA facebook group!

Remember | Amy Kattenbelt | Black Backgrounds

I'm here this month to share my layout created on a black background. This was a big challenge for me as I usualy use white cardstock backgrounds. I decided to try and treat the black background just like i would the white! I've created a Mixed Media background using paints and stamps, then built up layers behind my photo.

Watch the whole thing being created in the process video here!

& Smile | Sheena Rowlands | Black Background.

Hi there UK Scrap Addicts x Sheena here again.

Our challenge this month is to create using a black background.  I had a flick through my albums and realised I rarely use coloured cardstock anymore as a base for a layout, most bases are either white cardstock or light patterned paper so I knew this would certainly be challenging for me.

& Smile.

I knew I wanted to use bright colours to pop off the black cardstock so I had a think about the colour combos that I like and chose yellow, grey and black knowing that my black and white photos would go with anything.

Whilst looking through my stash I found some patterned papers with frames on and so the layout began to take shape. I cut out various sizes and coloured frames removing the centres of them all.
After laying them out roughly and taking a quick photo as a reminder - I have to do this all the time as I never remember how it went!! I started searching for embellishments.

I tend to store ephemera by colour once I split up collections so I reached for the yellows box plus my Bramble Fox perspectives and chipboard shapes to add depth and variety. I added something to most frames and added a little gold sparkle too in places as the photos record a very special day, my Brothers wedding.

This was certainly a challenge for me but I enjoyed the process and its good to challenge ourselves and try something new plus i got to use up lots of bits and pieces which is always good.

We would love to see your Black Background creations over on our UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page & there is loads of inspiration there too.

Till next time  x

March Free Cut File

Good morning crafty ones!

It's time for another free cut file!  This month we wanted to give you something to scrap all those love themed and valentine layouts so Lisa-Jane from Pretty My Page has designed this fold up heart.

The hearts are designed to be folded up with different layers of paper underneath so you need to start with the smallest heart first.  When you back the second and third hearts you need to make sure that you only apply adhesive to the cut file and not to the back of the patterned paper or you won't be able to pop them up.  I've attached some photos so that you can see how it works.
I used the new Simple Stories Kissing Booth collection to actually make a Valentine card so I cut the file on black to match the papers and make it a bit more masculine.  I also cut the main back layer on black to help it stand out from the background paper.  I popped some foam next to the spine of the hearts to help lift up the 'wings' so you can see the underneath and get some lovely dimension.

We are now able to supply both the Silhouette file and the SVG file so that all makes of digital die-cutters should easily be able to use our designs.  You can of course use the file from this image using the instructions here.  Please do let us know if you have any issues using the files.

The SVG is here.

The Silhouette file is here.
As always, these cut files are for your own personal use only.  Selling the files either digitally or in die cut form is a breach of copyright and makes us sad.

We'd love to see them in action so please do share your creations with us in our Facebook Group and tag us on any social media so that lots more people can be inspired.

Bye for now
x
