Logica CMG | Amy Kattenbelt | Hidden Journaling

Hello UK Scrap Addicts! Amy here, sharing my layout that features hidden journaling. This month spromt finally got me started on a project I had been planning since the start of the year, but kept putting off. My plan is to create a special 12x12 album full of layouts that really tell my story. To some what step away from the arty creativeness I enjoy about scrapbooking and to really focus on writing about my life experience. I want to create an album that future generations will be able to look at and get to know the real me, full of details that at the moment I take fore granted, that may even seem unimportant, but in time they will tell my story.

I decided to start with something that was pretty straight forward for me to journal about. Because to create my album successfully I am going to need to do a lot of writing! So I chose to write about my first graduate job. I want each layout in this album to feature an envelope that contains the journaling on A4 paper. I have used this bright summery collection from Paige Evans, mainly because I wanted to use the bike die cut as that was how i often traveled to my job.

I cut an envelope shape (designed by Paige Evans) out on my silhouette cameo, and printed out my journaling. I then wanted to create the effect of all the little pieces of die cut ephemera and lots of small photos tumbling out of this envelope.

Inside the envelope you can find my hidden journaling (I have blurred it slightly in these photos for privacy). I also put a large photo in the envelope too. When writing my journaling I really kept focusing on what I would love to be able to read about my ancestors, this idea really helped me to feel at ease with writing about myself.

I plan on creating lots of layouts to go into my special album, that will contains all sorts of my memories and life experience. I would love to hear from anyone who has created this sort of album already.

I hope you might consider creating a special album like this too, the new year would be a perfect time to start! Thank you for reading, and I wish you a very Happy New Year.

From Center Parcs | Kirei Baldwin | Hidden Journaling

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

This month the Creative Team were challenged to incorporate hidden journaling onto a layout so as there were already lots of fab ideas for doing that I thought I would do something different and show how you can add it into a mini album....

To make the mini album I cut patterned paper from the lovely Pinkfresh Studio's 'Home for the Holidays' collection into 6" x 4" pieces and stitched round the edges with sparkly gold thread. I added my photos mounted onto vellum and then decorated each page with the matching ephemera, puffy stickers and enamel dots.

To create my pockets I stitched two of the patterned papers together leaving a gap at the end so that my tag could slide in. I then stitched vellum to the tag and filled it with some sequins to make it a little shaker pocket.

The rest of my pages were finished in the same way...

I added my journaling to the back of each of the three tags that I included in the mini album.

I also added three of the cut apart cards from one of the patterned papers at different places through the mini album. These were also decorated on the back...

Don't forget to check out all of the inspiration from the rest of the Creative Team this month! Why don't you give 'hidden journaling' a go and share your layouts (or mini album!) over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook group....

Happy Scrapping!

Chatsworth Selfies | Jackie Ashton | Hidden photos/Journalling

Hi Scrappers, Merry Christmas to you all - I really doubt anyone will be tearing themselves away from family and friends today (25th) to read this, so I hope you have had a great day celebrating this season and got loads of lovely goodies including craft supplies.

The theme this month is hidden photos / journalling so I’ve done a combination for my layout, adding a vellum envelope to my page with tags which includes photos and journalling.

Chatsworth Selfies - Joy

I recently visited Chatsworth which was all decorated for Christmas, and I took the opportunity to take a few selfies as we walked around.

As it Christmas I used the lovely Crate Paper - Snowflake collection.

After deciding where I was going to add my patterned papers.  I added some splatters of ink and stamping to the cardstock.  I tore one edge of the patterned papers and adding them to the cardstock, before adding my photograph to the left hand side of the page.

For my hidden journalling I added a vellum envelope to the right side of the page, and die cuts 4 tags large from white cardstock and one vellum tag the same size, and 3 small tags from patterned papers that I added between each of the large ones.

I attached the vellum tag, to the top of the stack of tags and added some word phases and a chipboard shape.

For each of the large tags I added a piece of patterned paper the the  bottom of each tag, with a piece of glitter paper at the top.
Underneath each photograph I added some colours thread on top of a punched vellum circle and added some puffy accents to each large tag.

For the small tags, I added some small chipboard pieces to each.

For the final tag I add my typed journalling and assembled the tags using some twine to hold it together.

I added embellishments to the front of the vellum envelope and added my title between my photograph and the vellum envelope.

We would love you to share your layouts over on our Facebook page.

Till next time

Happy scrapping and a Happy New Year

See you in 2020

Let It Snow | Keighley Brennan | Hidden Journalling

Hey UKSA, Keighley here with my layout for this months theme. I very rarely include hidden elements on my layouts but it can be a fun interactive element on a page. I decided I wanted to include hidden Journalling and was inspired by the baubles from my Mind The Scrap December 2018 kit. The baubles are from the tag pack in the Crate Paper Merry Days collection. I made a matching bauble from patterned paper also from the kit so I had 3 baubles to work with.

I included my photo on top of one, backed the snowflake bauble and added my Journalling to the back of the 3rd bauble.

I hand-stitched a large title and hung the baubles from the title only sticking down two of them so the third bauble could be flipped to reveal the Journalling.

You can watch my layout process here on the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube Channel.

Please take a look at the UKSA Facebook group where you will find lots of gorgeous inspiration from the team as well as the group members.
Thank you for stopping by,
Keighley

Warm Hearts | Sam Ball | Hidden Journalling

I can’t deny, journaling ‘freaks’ me out!

It’s not that I don’t like my own scrapbooking writing, as I actually really do! I think it stems back to a few years ago when I was thrilled with a LO then decided to add some journaling, which totally spoilt it! There was either a spelling mistake or I rambled on and ran out of room – either way, I literally removed as much of the from the cardstock and re-did it!

So whilst ‘hidden journalling’ wouldn’t be my first choice for a layout them, I’m actually really pleased with how this LO turned out and especially the concept bit!

This was made using a die-cut, borrowed from Jackie Ashton. It’s actually meant to be used as a page divider in a December Daily or similar, as the spine cuts six hole punches, but it was too cute not to adapt, and as such I cut a couple and tied them together with ribbon to create a hidden opening, perfect for the journalling.

Apart from the ribbon ties, all other textural elements are bright red, which is not usual for me, but I have to say that I love how the LO turned out!

Ironically the photo was taken in the middle of Summer on the Amalfi coast, but is was a relatively cloudy day, and as such could have been taken anywhere at any time of the year! The only bit that made me think it lended itself to a Christmas styled layout was the spring of evergreen just poking into the frame in the top left of the photo.

At the moment the hidden journalling only uses elements from the collection to create a trailing banner, each end held by a cute bird! However I may decide to be brave and add a handwritten sentiment!

That’s the beauty of ‘hidden journalling’ – no-one will ever know if I did or didn’t!

It's Pumpkin Time! | Lisa-Jane Johnson | Hidden Elements

Hi everyone, it's Lisa-Jane from Pretty My Page here today with my spooky take on this month's challenge.

I had lots of photos from my youngest niece's birthday party 10 years ago, but I had been avoiding scrapping the event because there was something wrong with most of the pictures.  I wanted to still use them as there were parts of each photo that I wanted to remember so this hidden elements technique meant that I could still scrap them without them being on show on the front of a layout.

I used this flip out technique that I remembered using in a Shimelle feature on Two Peas in A Bucket a few years ago.  She scrapped a 6x4 photo for each month of the year, gaining a photo each month so January had one, February had two and so on.  And yes that meant that December had 12 6x4 photographs on ONE layout!

This technique featured in July with 7 photos but there is also room for 2 journalling spots so there's plenty of real estate for whatever you need to use it for!  You basically just make a concertina which stacks up on one side of your layout so that the front page element looks like two 6x4 photos next to each other.  One of the photos flips out and the other stays put but of course you could flip out both side if you wanted more space.

The 2 photos and mats in the central portion of the layout mean that you don't need much else to complete your page.  A few stickers popped up on foam to create a diagonal flow down the page was all it needed to finish it off.  I'm still loving using the Simple Stories Vintage Halloween collection because it's so easy to use.

Other than a couple of background layers and the small amount of embellishment, the main feature of this layout is the concertina so it comes together really quickly.  Once you've cut your 12x12 in half and folded it up to create your flip out, the tricky bit is done.

I hope you've been inspired to hide some elements on your pages this month and perhaps you've been inspired but this flip out technique.  Please do tag us on social media and share your pages on our Facebook group so we can share the love!

Happy scrapping!

I Am The Storm | Karen Moss | Hidden Journalling

Hello, hello Karen here with my hidden journalling page for this month's challenge.

Our daughter has been working as a doctor in A&E and has not enjoyed it at all - the work and hours are challenging both physically and mentally but she is changing jobs at the end of January so there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I wanted her to have something tangible to know how proud we are of her and decided to write a letter, I printed it out twice - one for my layout and one to pop in her Christmas card.

I saw the quote in a magazine, advertising a bracelet with it engraved on, and thought it would be the perfect sentiment to send to her.

I added an envelope to my layout, with a piece of card attached to the flap and popped my letter into the envelope.

I embellished the front of the card, adding a photo, which I screenshotted from Instagram - hence the close cropping at the top to eliminate Gracie's Instagram name.

I am delighted with the result and think this may well be my favourite layout this year!

There is a process video here showing more detail of how I made this, I think you will agree, extremely well hidden journaling page.

I hope you can squeeze in a little time to be creative over the next few, hectic weeks and wish you an early Happy Christmas.

Karen
