Boys will be Boys | Niki Rowland | Black & White Photos

Hi there UK Scrappers! Niki here with you today with a layout and process video. Our theme this month is to use black and white photos.

I often don't use black and white photos becuase I think they lose detail when the colour is gone. I tend to only use them if I have close up portrait shots of faces, rather than pictures of everyday life. I think that black and white can change the mood and tone of a photo, quite dramatically. This is all great, but only on the right sort of photos, so I lean away from converting my photos. BUT I embraced this month's theme of course and didn't have any moody portrait shots available so choose three photos of my little boy, doing boy type things, playing on a play area. The photos look great in black and white and I now officially challenge myself to print more black and white photos!

I started off with my title which I cut on the Silhouette. This cut file is available in the Silhouette Design Store. I stuck it in place and then built the rest of my layout around the title. I arranged my three photos on the right side of the page and then started embellishing.

You can see my process video of this layout below.

I used the Shimelle Little by Little collection coupled with embelishments from Wish you Were Here by Pretty Little Studio. I added lots of different types of embellishments to my layout so that it had dimension and textures.

I hope you have enjoyed my layout and video - see you next month!
Happy scrapping xx

Hey Hey Hey | Pol Prince | Multiple Photos

Hi guys! It's Pol here today with a new layout to share with you using multiple photos.

I don't usually use more than one photo on a layout so this was a bit of a challenge for me. I decided to use these lovely photos of my nephew and niece with her gorgeous new glasses on. The new Dear Lizzy 'Lovely Day' collection was a perfect match for the bright colours in the photos.

To start I cut 1/4" off each side of the stripy background paper and matted it onto dark blue cardstock. I then cut the cut file with my Silhouette out of the lovely yellow paper and matted that onto the stripy paper.
I had printed my photos at 2" x 3" in order to leave lots of space still on my layout. I matted the photos onto the speciality foiled blue paper, and the green paper.
I knew I wanted to position my photos on top of the 'solid' bits of the cut file as this was fairly equally spread around the page. I then used clear 3D dimensional glue (my best friend!) to stick the Hey Hey Hey stickers down the middle of my layout, in order to draw the eye down the page.

I then used the Dear Lizzy ephemera and stickers to create little clusters next to each photo. Again, they were fairly evenly spread over the page and they draw the eye to the photos. I like to use 3 areas or clusters of embellishments on my pages to create a visual triangle which the eye travels round. I sometimes use more or less, but always use odd numbers of clusters, they just look much more balanced than even numbers.

I added some gorgeous little puffy stickers from Shimelle's Little by Little collection to finish off the clusters. I absolutely adore these stickers, the animal ones are so cute.
I then sat staring at my page for a few minutes, certain that it needed a little something more to finish it off. Sure enough, when I stuck the Lovely Day tag in the top left hand corner it already looked better. To finish off I took a black pen and drew around the little yellow rectangles that were adjacent to the title stickers, to make them stand out more.

And there you have it - a bright, fun, balanced layout with 3 photos that draw the eye nicely around the page.
