Edinburgh Castle | Stamping | Amy Kattenbelt

Good Morning UK Scrap Addicts,

Today I am sharing with you my layout using stamps. I used three floral stamps from the new 5th & Monaco collection by Pink Paislee.

Let me walk you through how I created my layout...

Firstly I used clear gesso on a piece of white cardstock, I did this because I knew I would be using a lot of wet medium on this layout. Sometimes I gesso and sometimes I don't, its all about playing around and experimenting with your card and mediums and techniques!

Next I used black Archival ink (which is permanent when dry and does not react to water), and a script stamp to add some black inking across the middle of the page. For this style of stamping, I do not use an acrylic block, and I bend the stamp in a U shape to avoid harsh edges. Experiment on a piece of scrap paper first if you haven't used this technique before.

Then, using a Versamark ink pad, I stamped the flowers across the middle of the layout in a horizontal band. The ink shows up just enough to see it to control the placement of the stamps and make sure they don't overlap.

I used white embossing powder on these stamped images and set it with my heat gun. These will now give a resist to the next layer of mixed media.

Next I added the blues, purples and pink watercolour effect band across the page. I used Ecoline liquid watercolour inks in Sky Blue, Ultramarine Violet and Magenta. I used a large round paint brush and plenty of water, painting the colours in patches but allowing them to touch and blend together to create all sorts of hues. I left this to dry naturally overnight.

I added my photo, which i had double matted in a pink and green paper also from the new 5th & Monaco collection. And added my title and the date in alphabet stickers.

I then cut out leaf shapes of various sizes by hand, in 3 colours of fun foam, and stuck them to my layout in four areas to create a branch type effect.

Lastly I splattered black ink finely in a few areas of the layout to break up the large areas of white which I felt finished it off nicely.

Thank you for taking the time to come and read about how I created this layout. I hope its given you a few more ideas about how you could use your stamps in your scrapbooking. Why not head over to the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page and share your creations, or also ask me any questions.

Take Care and Stay Safe,

When Will I See You Again? | Jackie Ashton | Stamping

Hi crafters, Jackie here with my take on the using stamps on your layouts.

Stamps are my weakness, not my only one, but one that I can't see going away anytime soon.

While the World is upside down at the moment, who is  missing something, something that is trivial in the grand scale of things, but something that you would love to have right now, that thing that we have taken for granted and now don’t know when we will ever see it again.

Mine is an oat milk latte from Starbucks, I’m not a 100% coffee drinker as a do like a nice cup of tea, but the thought of not knowing when will I be able to just nip and grab my favourite coffee, inspired me to ask ‘When Will I See You Again?’

I’m sure I will be doing more layouts over the coming weeks to show the change to my life and the world as it becomes the norm.

So onto my layout,

When Will I See You Again ?

I recently purchased a label stamp set, and wanted to use them in a different way, other than just stamping them and using them as a basic label on my layout.

After choosing a few of the labels images, I stamped them down one side of the cardstock, using oxide inks as I didn’t want the ink impression to be so vivid, and the oxide inks gave a more distressed look.

When stamping, I over lapped the labels using 5 colours, taking the colours from the paper collection I choose.

Then I added my main design to the right hand side of the layout.  The paper collection I used, are from Pebbles/Jen Hadfield - Hey, Hello collection - Using a 4 inch strip, and  2 x 1 inch strips down each of the edges, along with some ruffled crepe paper down one edge to add some texture.

In the vellum envelope I added a tag ...

I also wanted to bring the patterned paper over to the left hand side of my layout, so I punched some labels and added over the tops of stamped images and also stamped onto the labels, with some coffee stamps I have.

For my title I used several alphabets from my stash, and the puffy sticker rainbow is from Pink Fresh Studio.

I choose some embellishments from Pink Fresh Studio ranges, Bramble Fox coffee cup perspextives and Elle's Studio cork tabs.

This layout was fun to create, even thought its a serious topic regarding the lockdown in the UK, I wanted the layout to be a fun one, one that documented my life right now and one of the things I'm missing.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you can take some inspiration from my layout to use your stamps in a different way, other than what they are originally intended for.

Don’t forget to share your layouts over in our Facebook group, we would love to see them.

Till next time

Happy Scrapping

A piece of our history | Sam Ball | Stamping Techniques

Stamping is definitely not my forte… In fact, I could go as far as to say it’s been my nemesis in the past!

I think I’ve had that many unsuccessful attempts at stamping in the past that whilst I really like the principle, I simply avoid it like the plague. So many times I’ve stamped an image, only to discover the central area is missing, or the detail isn’t sharp, but never understood what I was doing wrong.

They say you’re never too old to learn and this is certainly true when it comes to stamping! I recently attended a workshop that made me realise that I’ve fundamentally not been doing it right.

The key to successful stamping isn’t the ink pad you use, the size of your acrylic block, the pressure you apply, or even the paper that you’re stamping on but ensuring that the worksurface you’re working on is absolutely rigid and flat.

In light of the unusual world that we are currently living in, I decided to use a selfie that I took of myself in my hairdressers a couple of years ago. Having short hair, I tend to get it cut every 6 or 7 weeks, and I can’t deny it’s something I’m selfishly missing!

Having looked through my stamp stash, I found a stylistic face stamp that I’d been given as a gift which had yet to be used, so I decided to stamp this onto tracing paper and use bookplate behind it, fussy cutting the left hand side of the stamp.

After fussy cutting some decorative frames, to reflect the elaborate mirror in the photo, I added embellishments such as tape measure ribbon and wood veneer scissors to ‘nod’ to cutting, trimming and measuring, all things that a hairdresser does!

Do you have a scrapbooking nemesis and if so what is? And don’t forget to share your stamping layouts too on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram

Awesome Boys| Zoe Hailey Zola28 | Stamp Technique

So are you like me, someone who owns a bunch of stamps but hardly ever uses them?
I was glad to be challenged to dust off some stamps and make this layout, which I have to say is one of my favourites that I have made recently.

I created this stamped border by covering my card stock with a scrap of square paper and then used the stamping off technique, leaving a beautiful alphabet edging. The stamps were perfect because they had both capital and lower case letters, making it easier to fill in any gaps.

For my background I seed my favourite splat stamps and heat embossed creating the red and turquoise splats which I love!

I worked with Shimelle's Field Trip collection which was perfect for these photos of my son and his bestie enjoying some time at the farm together. I love how  bright and bold the design is and how heavily embellished the layout is. Rockets and Dinosaurs were perfect for this page!

To finish my page I added more ink splats and sequins because no page is complete without sequins in my opinion!

Let's make the most of those stamps this month and get creating with them, be sure to share your stamped creations on the UKSA Facebook Group.

Happy Scrapping

Explore Bruges | Amy Kattenbelt | Mixed Media

Hello UKSA Friends, Amy here with a mixed media style layout to fit Junes theme. I've used watercolour paints in all the colours of the rainbow to create this eye catching 12x12 page.

If you want to see this layout being created I have a short process video on out YouTube channel here.

I've added texture by using white machine stitching. I kept switching the stitch style from straight to zigzag to add extra interest.

I used various grunge style background stamps to add details and break up the rainbow stripe of colour. This is such an easy way to add intricate, interesting areas on your layout.
I've used 3 small black and white square photos, which easily form a visual triangle on your layout. Using B&W means the colours of the photos don't fight with the rainbow colours, in fact it forms a lovely contrast.
My title was created using a glossy puffy word sticker 'explore' and small foam thickers. I kept the rainbow theme going by making the word 'bruges' rainbow coloured too.
This layout is actually really easy to create. I really hope its inspired you to give a painty rainbow layout a try....have to admit they are one of my fav kinds right now so I look forward to seeing your creations!

Thanks for reading and I'll be back soon with another layout for you next month.
