Cute | Sarah Costain | Mixed Media

Sarah here today with my layout for this months theme of mixed media.

Mixed media is my favourite part of creating and it appears in all my scrapbook layouts. The most fun technique for me is creating rainbows.
I decided to do something a little different today and masked off my black background to create a silhouette. I used Impasto paints and blending them with my finger.

My layout features my kitten Neo so I used some fun Cat papers and ephemera to match from a older Mind the Scrap kit

I distressed my paper edges and added tule for extra texture. Foam between the layers gave the photo cluster some height.

Some white paint splatters over the background helped everything tie in together for a finishing touch.

You can check out how I created my layout in detail over on the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube channel here.

Thanks for joining me and have a Happy Scrappy day :)

Travelling through Autumn! | Small photo's | Ramblings of Geo

I decided this month to step away from Smashbooks, and show you a spread i did in my travellers notebook!

I only put my instax photos in this one, so it was a perfect excuse to print some autumnal photos of my dogs on a walk in the park.

I used the Vicki Boutin Color Wheel stamps in the red, orange, and yellow theme. I used a nice vibrant Autumnal yellow as the back ground for one page, i made leaf prints with a stencil i recently bought of a fellow scrapper on a facebook selling site.

I used my Mind the scrap kit for the ephemera of the little girls, and the stickers were mainly from the Amy Tangerine Shine on booklet.

Sweet Happy You | Sarah Costain | Tic Tac Toe

Sarah her today with my take on this months challenge.
I chose the line Arrows, Circles and Washi Tape, you can watch the process video here.

To create my background I used some Prima 12x12 watercolour paper and acrylic paints from Thompsons Craft Supplies.

Whilst my backgroumd dried I added lots of layers behind my photo using gold dotted tissue and papers from my July Mind the Scrap kit

I added a scribbled circles to the background using an embossing pen, added gold glitter powder and heat set it.

To add more texture I tucked some torn washi behind my photo and tucked in small ephemera pieces and enamel dots all from the kit.

Some glitter stars, an arrow paperclip and splashes of gold Color Shine added a finishing touch.

Don't forget to check out the video for more details.
Thanks for joining me and have a scrappy day :)

Guest Designer | Emma Clark

 Today we welcome Emma Clark as our guest...

Good morning crafters, my name is Emma.  I live in Bristol with my 4 children, my hubby and our crazy dog Ted.  I've been scrapbooking for about 14 years and I'm still not bored.  I run a scrapbook kit club called Mind the Scrap and that has been going for almost 2 years now, I love my job!  Website Instagram Facebook Group

When Laura asked me to be guest designer for this month, I had just got back from my holiday... the BIG PHOTO theme was perfect as I had brought one back with me that had been taken by Centre Parcs in their pool of myself and my family... I knew it would work perfectly with the Mind The Scrap July kit so I got to work.

I loved the watery effect of the papers from this month but not as a whole sheet, so I made them into strips and curved the edges to make them more 3d. Then I layered up my photo alongside embellishments from the kit to create a frame around it.

The iridescent thickers worked perfectly with the water pool photo bringing more focus to the picture.

I finished with some puffy heart stickers and the star pieces from the alphabet sheet, I'm pleased that I found a use for the mermaid sticker as its beautiful and they are one of my daughters favourite!

Thanks for joining us Emma.  Be sure to check out Mind The Scrap for more of Emma's work!

Roxy chose Jo Drury's comment from the Scrapbook Fails post;

"The Worst Scrapbooking Fail EVER!!!!!!

We had a challenge at a retreat to use spare alphas. My idea was epic... I completely covered 2 pieces of card stock with random chipboard alphas of all sizes, it was a beautiful jigsaw of alphas covering every inch of the card from top to bottom. I painstakingly painted the entire thing black with acrylic paint so that they both looked like a blackboard with lovely embossed letters on the background. It took 3 coats of paint and the entire thing took nearly 24 hours from start to finish. I used them to back a fab picture of each of my twin nephews with school awards that they had recently won. It was a true labour of love... but it looked absolutely amazing!! I proudly hung them on the wall and was chuffed to bits when it was voted the challenge winner at the retreat.... I proudly walked up to collect my prize and Lorraine our crop organiser whispered with a sad face and a big sigh.....

You didn't cut the manufacturers strip off on either page.....

Epic fail! Although I can laugh about it now they still don't fit in my page protectors or album and I still haven't figured out a way to fix it!!! And it's still a topic of conversation at the crops whenever I start a new layout.. lol"

And Pol chose Leo from the Scrapbook Fails post;

"My biggest scrapbook fail was making an album - I make quite a lot of albums so it wasn't like I didn't know what I was doing but I think that's where the problem started - over confidence! This one was going to be a 9x12 size. I spent hours padding the chipboard bases, gluing and cutting some very precious fabric, (like Japanese import stuff quilting shops sell for ££) putting in the spine, riveting etc etc. Really cuffed to bits with it - go to put my page protectors in.... oh no, I made the album 9x12 perfectly totally forgetting about the page protectors being larger for the spine bits. doh doh doh!"

And lastly, I (Laura) chose Wendy's layout for the sketch challenge because it includes Sussex Pond Pudding!!
