Fun | Amy Kattenbelt | Monochrome

Hello UK Scrap Addicts, Amy here today to share my example Monochrome layout. I've decided to use Green as my colour, and have gone for a mixed media based layout as I love creating these style of layouts in Monochrome.

I used a fee shades of Distress Oxides pads in various greens, especially my favourite green called Cracked Pistachio. I used both the packaging technique and also a sponge applicator through a stencil. I also used the Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Spray to make some splatters (I had to let this dry overnight!). I also used my finger to make smudgy shapes with the darker share of green ink.

To add more texture and details I ripped up tiny slithers of a green triangle patterned washi tape and randomly stuck them to my background vertically.
I used a Bramble Fox leaf die to cut various scraps of green patterned paper and layered them up, mainly at the bottom right corner of my photo. I also used the diagonal net type die in a green paper behind my photo.

I pulled out random pieces of ephemera and stickers in matching green shades and added them to the layout. I added my title from green stickers. I finished the layout off with some little green gems
Thanks for coming to take a closer look at my Monochrome layout, they are really fun to create and a great way to use up scraps and random ephemera.
Take care, and stay safe.

Tee Time | Kirei Baldwin | Monochrome

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here with my layout for this month's challenge theme which was to scrap a monochrome layout. Now I like many people usually scrap with lots of different colours so going for one colour (in different tones) is definitely a challenge!

I went for blue, which was also the most popular choice this month with the rest of the Creative Team! I dug into my stash and pulled out any blue papers I could find, and then cut a load of 2" squares which I then distressed.

Then I layered them up on the top half of my layout, only sticking them down on the top edge.

I added a square photo mounted onto some.... surprise, surprise blue patterned paper!

Then it was time to embellish, so again dug into my stash and pulled out everything blue that I could find, I went for some flair, washi tape, enamel shapes, ephemera and puffy stickers and used them to add details to all the distressed squares.

I finished off with a title, stuck a few word phrases below it and added some journaling to the left of the photo.

I hope you have enjoyed all the fab monochrome layouts this month and have given it a go yourself, it really is a great way to use up some stash! Pop your layouts in the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook group or tag us on Instagram using #UKScrapAddicts so that we can see them!

Happy Scrapping!

Collect Memories | Zoe Hailey | Monochrome

 Hi Everyone

Hope you are all enjoying this months theme of monochrome layouts... I've loved seeing what the UKSA Creative Team have been producing.

This topic certainly challenged me, mainly because I tried to use a different colour palette, I wanted to work with pink (why not it's one of my favourite colours!) but I tried to steer myself away ...... and I ended up settling on blue. I used the noteworthy collection from PinkFresh Studio to make this simple layout.

I dusted off my border punches to create some interest in my paper layers and I layered my photos, distressing the edges of my papers.  I popped them up on foam to add a bit more dimension, because we all want more depth don't we ?!

I cut my very very lovely bow, using a die from a set that I own (although you could easily handcut something using a template off the internet). I layered my chipboard embellishments using some of the packaging from the collection which had grid lines on...... it was too good to waste.

I've titled my layout using the gorgeous Bramble Fox Perspectives along with the 'cool' and the sunnies.  A sprinkling of enamel dots completed my page.

Don’t forget to share your layouts over on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram if you’ve created a layout this month.

Happy Scrapping

Loves These Moments | Jackie Ashton | Monochrome

Hi Crafter, Jackie here with my layout for this months theme ‘monochrome’

This layout is for my Lockdown album, so its 9 x 12 format.

The collection I used is Pink Fresh Studio - Let’s Stay Home to document that we can still enjoy a walk around the Botanical Gardens after the restrictions were lifted over the Summer.

I choose a grid format so it help my layout come together quickly.

Layering some patterned papers underneath each photographs and distress the edges of the pattern paper to add some texture.

This was a project life card which I added a stamped phase at the top, and added some puffy alphabet stickers to form the title.

I love how this layout came together, and hope that you join us over on our Facebook page with your monochrome layouts, we would love to see them.

Family Photo | Karen Moss | Using A Monochrome Palette

Hello, hello - it's Karen here with my October page for UK Scrap Addicts and this month's theme is Monochrome.  I subscribe to a kit from Scrap Circle which is delivered every three months and I have combined two of the kits to make this page which had elements in black, white and lime.

I started by adding a little mixed media to my page in the top right and bottom left corner, using Infusions sprayed with water, I have so many of these that are unused and gathering dust in my craft room,  I was pleased to find one in a lime colour.  Once I had done this, and before the Infusions had dried I added some texture paste through a 'bubble' stencil.  As the Infusions were still wet the texture past took on their colours.

I cut out two circle/flower die cuts from green card and added these onto the two mixed media corners.
Next I added a 4 x 4in photo and arranged card and vellum ephemera to the two mixed media areas.

The final step was to add my title and a couple of die cut hearts.

I have a short process video showing how I made my page here

We would love to see your pages using a monochrome pallet and you can see what the other ladies have made this month on the blog, our Instagram feed or our Pinterest board.

Stay safe

Karen

Daydreamer | Sam Ball | Monochrome

When it comes to monochrome, it’s a common belief that it only applies to a colour combination of ‘black and white’!

In fact, it actually means a single colour and tones of that colour, often made darker or lighter using white or black, and it’s one of my personal favourites!

Having looked through my stash, I found some Websters Pages papers that were based on single colour themes – there was one for every month and of course I’d bought them all! August was based around teal and aqua, one of my all-time favourite colourways!

The photos were from August 2010, taken on the back of a cruise ship, and ones that I’d never scrapped. I’d paired them with the Websters paper and simply never got round to scrapping them!

After pulling together more stash from Crate Paper and Pretty Little Studio, along with some flair and embellishments, the layout came together really quicky!

I can’t deny to a little ‘cheat’ in terms of the gold accent, which appears on a couple of the chipboard pieces and more obviously on the background.

It’s one of the fabulous Vicki Boutin pre-done backgrounds, which always seems to help kick start my scrapping, rather than me sitting staring a blank piece of white cardstock!

Whilst most of us tend to scrap our most recent photos, it’s always nice to find an older photo or two! Not only does it evoke wonderful memories, but it also reminds us just how much cameras and their photo qualities have evolved.

What’s the oldest photo you can remember scrapping? Perhaps, now’s the time to dig some of them out, and maybe even create a monochrome layout using one? Afterall, sepia or black and white photos certainly hide a lesser quality image and will co-ordinate with virtually anything!

And if you do take part, don’t forget to share your layouts over on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram if you’ve played along this month? It’s a great way to use up old stash whilst enjoying new collections too!

Love is in the Air | Sheena Rowlands | Monochrome

 Hi there UK Scrap Addicts!

It's Sheena here again and for our challenge for you for this month is to create a monochrome layout. I was looking forward to making this page as when I break up a collection or kit I store the left over bits and pieces by colour. So once I decided on my colour choice I just covered my desk in the packets containing that colour.

Love is in the Air.

I took this photo of my daughter & her boyfriend over the summer & had been waiting for an opportunity to scrap it.

A lot of my pink / red supplies are love themed so I started by digging out any tags to use as my base layer.  As we are allowing both black and white to be used with our colour off choice I found this old Studio Calico paper to use as my background. I added a little pink ink under and around my tags plus a few black splats too.

I dug out lots of bits and pieces that I liked and tried to add them to the tags, not all made the cut but it felt good using up odd bits.

I am pleased with how this page came out & I will certainly try this challenge again in another colour way.

Don't forget to share your challenge layouts with us over on our facebook page, or tag us on Instagram with # UKScrapAddicts if you've played along this month?
This challenge is a great way to use up those last few bits from a kit or collection.

Till next time x

Pumpkins | Keighley Brennan | Monochromatic

Hey UKSA, Keighley here today sharing my layout for our Monochromatic theme this month. I do quite enjoy creating Monochromatic layouts, especially when Black and White is allowed when part of a challenge. Since it’s October I decided to scrap a Halloween photo, I do find with Halloween themed collections it’s quite easy to create a Monochromatic layout. I picked a photo of our Pumpkins and pulled out all the orange papers and embellishments aswell as some black and white papers and embellishments too.

This layout came together really easy, I started adding embellishments to either side of the photo and actually really liked how it looked so I committed to sticking them down, popping some pieces up on foam and leaving others flat to the page. There is two tones of orange in this collection but I felt I needed more, I had a look in my Bramble Fox Perspextives and found some Orange stars that were a slightly different tone of Orange so I added those on too.

For my title I didn’t have any orange Thickers or Alpha Stickers so I picked some black Thickers from my stash (possibly from an older Christmas collection). I finished off by adding some paint splatters in black. I love scrapping Halloween and I really enjoyed created this page.

If you would like to see how my layout came together you can watch my process video here on the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube Channel

Life is a Journey | Claire (ScrappyNerdUK) | Monochrome

Hey everyone.

I can't believe we are into October already?! Where is this year going?!

So, since it's the 1st of the month it's time for us to focus on a new theme. This month we are working with monochromatic colour schemes on our layouts.

Monochrome doesn't necessarily mean to use only black and white. Monochrome means the use of a single colour. Now, to only use 1 colour on our layouts would be super challenging so we have mixed things up a little and working with a single colour but with the addition of black and white.

For my layout, I decided to "shop my stash" and find tools and supplies that often get forgotten. I was desperate to use embossing folders on this layout. So, I cut 9 3x3inch squares from white cardstock. Some of these I put through my BigShot machine using an embossing folder and others I used some black texture paste through a stencil to add textured hearts.

I love the stark contract of the black texture paste on the white background and I cannot wait to use my embossing folders again on more of my layouts. Look at the text it created!!

I splattered some white paint across my background to give it some more interest and then stuck down each of my 9 squares in a grid style.

I only added adhesive to the middle of the squares which enabled me to run my nail around the edge of each of the squares to distress the edges which helps to create some shadowing behind.

I was really going for lots of different textures on this layout so I added some pom pom trim under 3 of my squares and also used foam pads to pop up some of my embellishments.

I rarely start a layout with a photo in mind. I just start creating the layout and then find a photo that would work.

I found this Snapchat photo from last year and the colours and theme of the photo really worked!

I used some white and pink Thicker words from my stash to add my title to the middle square.

I had the most amount of fun shopping my stash in my room to find all the stickers and embellishments that were pink and I started adding these within the squares, building up different layers as I went. Lots of word stickers, die cut hearts, stickers and enamel dots. It felt great using some older stash!

And here is the finished layout. I just love the soft pink colours and the pop of black and white really works well together.

There is a process video here too if you want to watch the process of this layout come together  - https://youtu.be/L9nloNCGARs
