Just Be You | Kirei Baldwin | Mixed Media

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here with another layout featuring this months 'mixed media' theme... I had these super cute photos of my friend's daughter playing around on Snap Chat that was perfect for this layout!

Like some of the other DT I don't use mixed media all the time on my layouts but do like to get messy every now and then! So for my layout I was inspired to use a black painted stripe background as I have seen quite a few examples out there and really like the look of it so this is my take on it.

I used Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock for my layout as it's ideal when using mixed media as it is slightly thicker and doesn't need priming with gesso before you start. I used regular black acrylic paint to paint the wide stripes, then once it was dry I added some texture paste (that I had coloured pink) through an Echo Park star stencil to add dimension.

After that had dried I added some white paint splatters all over the layout. And then for some more texture I did a bit of machine stitching using metallic pink and teal thread.

I mounted the photos with papers from the Simple Stories 'Dream Big' collection and then added lots of the matching embellishments along with some pretty sequins from Spiegel Mom Scraps.

And finished off with a title...

So, if you have never used mixed media before hopefully this has inspired you to give it a go! Have a look at the rest of the Creative Team's layouts this month for more inspiration and don't forget to share your mixed media layouts over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page...

Thanks for looking and happy scrapping!

Make A Wish | Rebecca Meadows (Guest Designer) | Sparkle

Hello UK Scrap Addicts.

My name is Rebecca Meadows and I am really pleased to have been offered a guest designer slot for this month.

I have been wanting to scrap this photo for quite a while now and this months UKSA theme of "sparkle" is a perfect opportunity to use it.

I have used Carta Bella, Flower Market papers to make my layout. I love to fussy cut and these papers have a great selection of flowers that are perfect for this so this is where I started!

I had a layout plan in mind for this photo. I wanted the threaded sequins to represent coins being thrown into the fountain.

So, here is my process.....

Having fussy cut lots of flowers, I put these to one side while I began working on my background. I chose a pink patterned paper and cut two triangles from the sides. I roughed up the edges using a paper distressed and then marked our with a paper piercer where my thread and sequins would go.

I used a threaded needle to post the sequins on to, if you do this, be sure to check that the sequins will fit over the eye of the needle before continuing. I used a bit of washi tape to hold the thread at the back, then kept the stitches quite tight to help kept the sequins in place, a couple of the sequins still moved and grouped together so I added a small amount of glue to keep them in place.

Next, I added the pink paper to a piece of cardstock and stuck down my matted photo. I wanted similar flowers in each cluster to give a look of symmetry and used foam pads to add definition to some of the flowers. My title was an obvious choice and I think the sparkly alphas really finished off the layout.

Finally, I added pink and black mist to the background and some journalling strips.

I loved creating this layout. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. This months theme has been really inspiring and I hope you are having fun with it too.

Adorable | Sarah Costain | Small Photos

Sarah here today with my layout using a small photo.

Autumn is my favourite time of year so I love a seasonal layout or two.
To create my background I used a leaves stencil and texture paste. I then added colour using Mermaid Markers and a little water. Once this was dry I splashed Color Shine on top.

To add some texture and height to my photo I added some tissue paper followed by paper layers (mostly from an older Mind the Scrap kit) which I distressed with scissors. To pop it all up I added fun foam to the back.

My title is a Perspectives by Bramble Fox, I love to use premade titles like this and the colour really helped draw attention to my little boy in the photo.

The cute illustrated stickers by Mrs Brimbles added a whimsical touch to the layout.

For a finishing touch I added sequins and enamel dots in amongst the leaves.

You can check out the process video over on the UK Scrap Addicts YouTube channel, just click here.

Thanks for joining me and have a Happy Scrappy Day :)
