Totally Awesome | Amy Kattenbelt | More than one collection

Hi UK Scrap Addicts, Amy here sharing my layout that uses more than one collection.

This isnt something I often do these days, I find it far quicker and easier to work with just one collection at a time. But combining collections allows for more creativity and can really make your layouts unique.

I chose to use the 'boys rule' collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio along with the Kaleidoscope collection by Vicki Boutin. I was careful in selecting papers from the same colour family - namely blues and greens. This made the job of combining the collections work well.

I feel I pretty much used half of one collection and half of the other, neither dominates the layout. I used little pops of bright magenta pink from the Vicki Boutin collection along with the pale grey starburst paper from Boys Rule.

I picked 3 circular elements, even though two are from one collection and one from the other, and added a little butterfly sticker to each.

Distressing the edges and using my tiny attacher to add some staples adds a little bit of detail on to a fairly simple layout.

#26 years | Sheena Rowlands | Mixed Media

Hi there UK Scrap Addicts x  Sheena here again.

Our challenge this month is Mixed Media.  In case mixed media is not something you are familiar with here is a definition ...
Mixed media is a termed to describe artworks composed from a combination of different media or materials.

This got me thinking that I wanted to create something a little different for this challenge .

#26 Years.

I wanted too make my own college paper.

To start off I gathered lots of patterned papers from Love themed ranges in shades of pinks, reds and blues. I tore them into small pieces and glued them on to a piece of cardstock in a random way.This is very therapeutic and a great way to use up scraps. I added pieces of doily and after letting it dry I added machine sewing to add texture.

From this college paper I then cut a series of hearts to use on my layout. I have plenty left over & I'm already thinking of how I can use it on another layout. I then added a circle of watercolour paint on my background cardstock, added a few splatters and then machine sewed on top of this once it was dry.

I used a sketch by as the basis for this page by Ashley Horton. I finished my page with a Thickers title, stamped sentiments and a few heart embellishments.

Goldies | Amy Kattenbelt | Sparkle

Today I'm sharing with you my take on a layout that has lots of Sparkle! I've used a mix of different sequins, glitter paper and glitter thickers to make my page stand out. I've also tried a new to me technique that involved sewing directly onto my page protector to create a sort of pocket border that encases a double sided 8x8 layout.

The photos don't really do the layout justice as the pocket border is obviously transparent with the sequins that move around freely when the page is turned. I love how different this looks in my album. Here is the front side...

 Close up of the shiny glitter paper (From Shimelle's Box Of Crayons Pad...it doesn't shed glitter so isn't at all messy!!)

Thanks for taking the time to come and look at my layout. I encourage you to give this technique a go...it really isn't as scary as you might think and creates a very special sparkly look!

Adventure Awaits | Sarah Costain | No Cardstock

Sarah here today with my take on the no cardstock challenge.

I love creating mixed media backgrounds so for this challenge I added clear gesso to a seascape patterned paper.  I could then build up layers of paints stamping and pastes on top.

To help my photo stand out from the busy background I used layers of textured material and distressed patterned paper behind it.

I added my title to the side of my photo to draw the eye across the page.

Lots of seashells and nautical elements added to the theme in the photo.

Some splashes of bronze and white ink over the layout tied it all in together.

Adorable | Sarah Costain | Small Photos

Sarah here today with my layout using a small photo.

Autumn is my favourite time of year so I love a seasonal layout or two.
To create my background I used a leaves stencil and texture paste. I then added colour using Mermaid Markers and a little water. Once this was dry I splashed Color Shine on top.

To add some texture and height to my photo I added some tissue paper followed by paper layers (mostly from an older Mind the Scrap kit) which I distressed with scissors. To pop it all up I added fun foam to the back.

My title is a Perspectives by Bramble Fox, I love to use premade titles like this and the colour really helped draw attention to my little boy in the photo.

The cute illustrated stickers by Mrs Brimbles added a whimsical touch to the layout.

For a finishing touch I added sequins and enamel dots in amongst the leaves.

Wipeout | Amy Kattenbelt | Small Photos

SO in this month of October, UK Scrap Addicts are working with the theme of 'small photos'. I decided for my layout i would create a grid style sketch to work with. Grid designs are a great way to use several small photos on one layout. I really hope you might give this sketch a go too. Using small photos is great when you are trying to tell a story, or when the photos you really want to document are low quality - in my case as the people were moving they were pretty blurry and couldn't have been printed in  a large size. Amazing Heart | Sarah Costain | Paint

Sarah here today for this months challenge using paint which is something I love to do on most of my scrapbook pages.

I decided to use watercolour so used a watercolour 12x12 paper for my background available at Thompsons Craft Supplies.

Using an embossing pen I sketched out a feather and coated it in Gold glitter powder. Once melted I added a rainbow of paint over it to fill in the shape.

I layered my photo onto tissue paper and rainbow paper from the July Mind the Scrap kit. I tucked washi behind the photo for added texture and mirrored this down the side of the layout.

Scripty Thickers also from the kit were perfect for my title running along the feather and some splashes of gold Color Shine and pearl drops added a finishing touch.

Happy | Amy Kattenbelt | Paints

Hi, Amy here with this months take on our September theme of  'Paints'.

I've created a layout using my watercolour paints to create this rainbow effect background around a heart. I just used a cheap set of watercolours with ready mixed colours, and a good thick white cardstock, but i didn't use gesso or anything. I used plenty of water to make the colours blend into one another, the trick was to not scrub at the paper with the brush, just use light touches to move the colour around. I then let it dry naturally.

Once i had created my background i sketched around the white heart shape that was left on the cardstock to hid the imperfect lines. After i had created this background i became a little stuck in how to finish it. Eventually i stumbled across a floral acetate from Heidi Swapp, which i loved but was also struggling to use. When i layered it up i loved how the flowers seem to fit the heart shape. It took my layout in a totally different direct but i really like the result.

Because the layout's backgrounf is so busy, i just layered my photo with some neutral coloured papers and added a few emblisshments including some brown gem swirls which to be honest, came in a grab bag, and i didnt think were my taste. I love them! Shows how good it is to try new things!

I hope that my layout shows you that you dont need expensive products to use paints on a layout, and you dont need mush skill either! So please, be brave and give it a go....you might just love it!!

Beautiful Smile | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | 6x4 Photo

Hello ScrapAddicts,

Its my turn on the blog today with my layout based on a single 4x6 photo. This seems pretty easy to work with for me and so I really concentrated on making a big bold title to fill a lot of the space on the page. 

I used the Glitter Girl collection from Shimelle for this layout as in the paper pack there was a 12x12 paper with all of the letters from the alphabet on it and I knew that I wanted to cut these apart to form the basis of my title. 

Once I had cut the paper up, I then had to decide on a title. 

Now, I struggled with this as it was a photograph about myself. I decided to embrace it and call the layout Beautiful Smile.

I only added a couple of areas of embellishments which were located at the top left of my photo, the bottom right of my photo and the bottom right of the page where the title ended. I wanted to maintain a lot of white space on this layout to keep it looking clean and I was happy with the balance of embellishments v. white space on this layout.

You'll see that I tucked in a mixture of die cuts and stickers to each cluster and added a few enamel shapes to finish the page.

Panda Shop | Amy Kattenbelt | Monochrome

Hi, I'm so excited to be bringing you my very first project for UK Scrap Addicts.

This months theme is Monochrome and after much deliberation about what colour i would like to pick i settled on creating a layout that was purely black, whites and greys. I thought this would match the photo of my eldest son with lots of panda cuddly toys that was taken on our holiday last year.

To make up for the lack of colour i knew i wanted to add plenty of layers and texture, in the hope it would create a lot of interest for the eye. Once i had printed my photo in black and white, i trimmed it to keep a white border and then added a narrow black border to make sure the photo would stand out.

I went through some of my stash and selected some black and white patterned paper. I used a striped paper from the Maggie Holmes Carousel collection as a border piece, and paper from Maggie Holmes Flourish collection with a beautiful leave design on as the background for my layout.

Because these papers were so busy, in order to make my title stand out i decided to use a layer of white cardstock on the left hand side. I added some grey watercolour paint and black ink splashes to create interest.

I then added lots of layers behind the photo, including using some patterned vellum and a doily and tag. I created a crepe paper ruffle to put under the photo too. I then added some black and white flowers which i had previously cut out from a patterned paper. I used Amy Tangerine thickers to create the title, i adore these as i think they add such a dramatic impact to the layout. I used Tim Holtz tiny alpha stickers to create a sub title as well as stamping the date the photo was taken onto a label.

I also used some acrylic paint to paint an 'awesome' wood veneer word grey, and added that above my photo.

I then added even more texture to my layout by adding some twine, fibres and ribbon, using my tiny attacher to staple them to the page. I added three small panda puffy stickers to form a triangle around the photo. Lastly i added some grey studio calico sequins in several clusters to complete the layout.
