Has the recent humid heat been affecting your creativity?

 

Are you finding it too much like hard work to even contemplate scrapping?

I usually love a mood board, and especially one as pretty as this is, but no matter how hard I tried – the mojo was melting!

 

I actually had two pieces of this fabulous Pinkfresh paper from their ‘My Favourite Collection’ launched earlier this year, so making the first cut should have been relatively ‘stress free!’ as I obviously had a spare. Even so, I managed to do a fair amount of paper shuffling before committing to cutting into it!

The striped colours were perfect and were made for this mood board, even taking on the colour swatch order!

 

I wanted to include not only the colours but elements from the mood board too!

I’m a great believer that you can never have too many butterflies on a scrapbooking layout, and found that the butterflies from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘Happiness’ paper were a fairly close match.

 

As much as I wanted to make a rainbow embellishment, I felt tht this would throw the distinct bands of colour so decided instead to add embellishments, grouped to reflect the swatches.

I was also inspired by the lattice image and had every intention to hand sew a series of diagonals. After machine stitching in matching threads, I trialed hand sewing some diamond shapes on a scrap piece of paper. Sadly, I wasn’t sure that they were going to work as well as I’d imagined so I abandoned that idea too!

In the end I’m really pleased with how this layout turned out… it might have been slow in the beginning but once I got into the mood, I finished it fairly quickly.

Our challenge this month is to use a wonderful mood board created by our team mate Amy, as inspiration to create our layout. I've not used mood boards much before but found plenty within this one to get my mind whirling and my layout started.

Hello Dippin' Dots.

Using the colour circles on the mood board I gathered lots of patterned papers I thought I might use mainly from Dear Lizzy - She's Magic and Crate Paper - Sunny days. The ice-cream  image had me hunting out photos from 2010 about an ice cream treat we ate in Florida.

I started by tearing the papers and overlapping them till I was happy how they looked. I layered my photos with more patterned papers which I distressed. Then the best bit for me, sorting through embellishments. 

To echo the mood board and my subject matter I added circles of patterned paper, an ice cream, a rainbow and even a butterfly from Maggie Holmes - Sweet Story range. My title is a mix of alphas and acrylic word plus a little hand written journalling.

Staying Home | Zoe (zola28) | Moodboard

Personally I love a mood-board to inspire creativity and the one created by Amy this month certainly did that for me!

The colour palette in the mood-board really spoke to me as did the rainbow, pink brickwork and the kaleidoscope of butterflies, in fact it was just perfect for me.

I started with some mixed media using my new AMAZING water colours and layered some pink Heidi Swapp Textured Paste using my Tim Holtz brickwork stencil (one of my most used stencils). 

I backed my Rainbow cut file using the Pinkfresh Studios Noteworthy collection and also made myself some bows using my new die (already a firm favourite in my small collection). 

I used my Martha Stewart Butterfly punch to create my kaleidoscope coming up and through the centre of the rainbow. (I adore how this bit turned out as I had trapped space there before and was really struggling with it from a composition perspective). 

I finished by embellishing around my photo clusters and adding some perspectives from Bramble Fox.

Let Your Color Shine | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | Mood board

I am the first to admit that I always struggle with a mood board as inspiration. But, I always remind myself that I can pick one thing in the moodboard that inspires me and there are no rules! There is no scrapbook police so we are free to be as creative as we want and to take inspiration from wherever we want.

Amy from our creative team made a moodboard this month for us to all use as inspiration and I just love it!

Rainbows are always a winner in my eyes so I immediately went to a collection that I knew had rainbow papers in and that is Amy Tangerines Picnic in the Park collection.

So I started with a sheet of white cardstock and laid this at an angle across the rainbow paper and trimmed both pieces back to 12x12. (Tip - I didn't stick all of the white cardstock down initially - this enabled me to cut away some of the rainbow paper to save for a later project)

I then decided on my title. My photo was about painting our garden fences and wanted a title about color (ironically, our house and now our garden fence is painted grey!)

I used the little white alphas from the same collection but wanted the word "Color" to be in colour so I had a look through my stash and found some Thickers from Vicki Boutin and cut down the word "Colorful" as I didn't need the last part.

I then had fun with all of the embellishments from the kit and created 3 clusters to create a visual triangle around my photo. In each cluster I started with a flower die cut and added in puffy stickers and foam Thickers and some flat stickers also so it had different textures and depth in each cluster.

I then added in a few flickers of black indian ink into each cluster for a pop of black.

I ran my fingernail underneath the bottom and right of the white cardstock to lift the edges slightly to create some shadow underneath.

And here is my completed layout. I was unsure as to whether I wanted to add journalling to this and there is a nice white area to the photo that would easily allow me to add some before adding to my album if I wanted to do so.

One Walk A Day | Amy Kattenbelt | Homemade Embellishments

Hello UK Scrap Addicts,

Amy here sharing my layout featuring a few homemade embellishments. I have to admit, I struggled with this theme. I am definitely the type of scrapbooker who will reach for the purchased ready made embellishments that coordinate with the collections. However I tried to rise to the challenge and came up with these two ideas to use on my layout.

The first, very simple, bit I think effective home made emblishment I created were the three white daisys. They were cut using dies and thick white card, and then I used a black pen to outline each petal. To the two smaller flowers I added a yellow enamel dot to its centre, and to the larger flower I added a die cut circle of yellow paper. Simple yet eye catching focal points for my layout.

The second embellishment I created was slightly more tricky, but just as eye catching and adds loads of texture and is a unique touch to my layout. I used beads to create this border of flowers and simply adhered it to my layout using gluer dots under the flowers.

To create this you will need 3 colours of seed beads, some strong beading thread and a beading needle. I will try and walk you through how I created it, but you could also Google for 'daisy chain bead technique' to get some diagrams and videos.

Tie several knots at the end of your thread. If the knot is not big enough to hold your beads securely you can tie the knot through a bead to hold everything in place.

Thread 5 of your stem colour beads onto the thread (in my case green). Then thread 4 petal colour beads (yellow) followed by a bead in your 3rd colour (blue)

GGGGGYYYYB 

Now take your  and thread it back through the first yellow bead you put onto your thread. This will form a loop of the yellow and blue beads.

Now thread three more yellow beads, and then take the needle through the 4th yellow bead that you originally threaded.

Start over by threading another 5 green beads, then form another flower etc until the bead chain is the required length.

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here with my example for this month's 'Make your own embellishments' theme... I had previously made some paper tassels to go on a mini album so decided it was a good reason to make some more for a new mini album!

I cut a 1 3/4" x approx. 8" strip of patterned paper and cut fringing along the long edge. Then I rolled it up pretty tightly and glued it with glossy accents at the end. I added a small strip of coordinating patterned paper around the top then using a needle threaded embroidery thread through the centre of the tassel, added some beads and a small jump ring and came back down through the centre of the tassel and tying it off with a knot. 

I went for a little mini album made from one sheet of 12" x 12" patterned paper and pulled out my stash of Shimelle's 'Never Grow Up' collection as I love the bright colours and thought it would be perfect to go with photos of when our two godsons stayed overnight with us.

The paper is scored at 4" and 8" vertically and horizontally and then fold along each score line using a bone folder to give a nice, crisp fold. Then you need to make cuts (bold red lines) as can be seen in the below photo which allows it to be folded up to create a cute mini album.

I then stitched around each square as I liked the definition and texture it added to each square.

Each of my 9 photos was mounted onto coordinating pieces of patterned paper with the edges distressed. They were then stuck down flat onto each square page of the mini album.

When doing this kind of mini album I use minimal embellishments that I keep pretty flat so that it can still fold up okay. There is no room for lot's of dimension which I usually like to do!

Then I just added a bit of journaling to each page and that was the inside done!

For the front cover I kept it pretty simple and just added a title using the matching Thickers. To tie it shut I stuck a dark denim ribbon to the back and to this I added three of the cute handmade tassels!

You Are... | Keighley Brennan | Handmade Embellishments

Hey Everyone, Keighley here today, it’s great to be back! Here’s my layout for this months theme of handmade embellishments. I chose to create some tassel paper clips and a tassel bow using embroidery thread. 

I then added those to a banner I made, which I took inspiration from a layout I found on Pinterest. I’ve used All Girl by Echo Park, perfect for scrapping my this cute photo of my daughter Darcie. Sticking with the tassel theme I also added tassels to the bottom of the banner. 

I added lots of stickers from the collection and I finished off by adding some gems and some Bramble Fox stars from my stash.
