Precious Moments | Essie Jane | Sparkle

Hi Everyone, Essie here and I'm so excited to be here sharing my first layout as part of the UK Scrap Addicts Team. April's theme, Sparkle, is right up my street and I couldn't wait to get the glitter out !

I had this beautiful photograph of my niece and her husband on their wedding day and wanted to design an elegant page for it. I started with a lovely heart garland cut file and after I'd removed all the pieces from my cutting mat I put all but one of the negative heart pieces to one side. I used that heart to draw around on a variety of patterned paper (I'm using the More Than Words Collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studios) and cut slightly outside my pencil lines to give pieces large enough to fill the open shapes of the cut file.

I placed the patterned pieces leaving some of the hearts empty as I went around the circle.

I then added glitter in co-ordinating colours to enough of the negative heart shapes I had put aside to fill the remaining open hearts of the cut file. Then it was a case of adding the photograph and embellishments.

I have a process video linked here and don't forget to check out the Facebook group to see how everyone else has got their Sparkle on this month!

Friends | Kirei Baldwin | Sparkle

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei back again sharing my layout for this month's 'Sparkle' theme....

As you can see I added the sparkle through lots of pretty sequins.... I decided to do some stash busting and use up some of the many that I have been hoarding.

I used a cute heart cut file by Paige Taylor Evans and drew though it to mark out the different areas, which I then filled with lots of lovely sequins... that took me a while!

The paper collection I used was the lovely Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Midnight' as it was perfect with my fun Snapchat photos.

I also managed to get 'sparkle' into my title...

I hope you feel inspired by this month's 'Sparkle' theme... whether you use sparkly papers, a sparkly style photo, lots of glitter or 'sparkle' in your title we do love to see everyone's take on the theme so please don't forget to share your layouts over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page!

Thanks for looking and happy scrapping!

Night Time Sparkle / Jackie Ashton / Sequins

Hi crafters, Jackie here with my take on this months challenge - Sequins and Glitter.

For this month my layout is very minimalistic for me.

Night Time Sparkle

The photograph is of the first time I saw the Eiffel Tower - not only at night, but it was on the hour and it was sparkling - the photographs didn’t capture the actual sparkle, as it was over very quickly - but I managed to get the spot light beaming from the top.

I wanted the background paper to be slightly distressed, so added a thin layer of white gesso and added some squeezed lemonade oxide ink over the top using the packaging technique.

I added some sequins to thread, which I criss-crossed on the page, adding a few sequins to each thread.

I printed 2 copies of my photographs and added 3D foam to them, adding a die cut frame, which I cut in half to the edges of the photograph and added 2 label under my photographs to add some journalling.

For the title I used some mini alphabets from my stash and the ‘sparkle’ word is from PinkFresh Studio Joyful Day collection.

Don’t forget to share your layouts over on our Facebook page, we would love them using months challenge.

Thats all from me this month, till next time.

Happy scrapping

Snow Cute | Keighley Brennan | Sparkle

Hey Everyone, Keighley here today sharing my first layout as part of the UKSA Creative Team, using this months theme of sparkles.
I knew straight away I wanted to created a shaker, sequins add lots of sparkle to a layout. I created a large snowflake shaker with a mix of 3 different sequins, added glitter Thicker’s to create my title and for even more sparkle I used a very old bottle of Stickles glitter glue on some of the paper snowflakes.

You can watch my layout process here on the UKSA YouTube Channel.

There’s also lots of sparkly inspiration on UKSA Facebook group, we love to see your creations too

Thank You For Stopping By

All that glitters is not gold…

Hi Everyone

Sam here, with my first layout as a DT member of the UKSA team…

If you hadn’t already noticed, the theme for April is ‘Sparkle’.

Now, I can’t deny that I have a real phobia of glitter – I think it’s because it reminds me of sand. Like sand, it gets everywhere, so it’s a scrapbooking product that I tend to avoid like the plague! I simply couldn’t face using any, so my ‘Sparkle’ was going to have to be introduce via some other means…

I found I’d got some Starlights paint, including White Gold, which I knew gave a true shimmery effect, so I decided that my layout would incorporate gold elements along with some co-ordinating sequins from my stash.

My eldest step-daughter is in New Zealand currently where this photo was taken. I thought the quirky seat on the wall that had become a painted swing was fabulous, along with the cupid and combinations of greens, teals and hot yellow. It’s not a colour combination that I’d usually scrap with, but was so inspired by it, I decided to dig deep into my scrapbooking stash and see what I could find.

To my delight, I realize that the Maggie Holmes ‘Carousel’ collection featured some of these tones. And, I’m sure that you can relate to just ‘saving a piece of paper’ because it’s too nice to use syndrome? I’d been suffering with that over the big top paper, but as it was just black and white, it meant that I could paint it to complement the photo and add sparkly details too!

I tend to mix white gesso with paint when I’m creating a background on a printed design, as it works in much the say way as preparing a background that’s going to be subjected to techniques such as the packaging one.

After fussy cutting the kites and the scallop detail for the big tops, I used sequins to add detail, with little French knots to each centre.

I found I’d got an unopened set of enamel charms, both of which were set into a gold metal, so this added to the sparkle along with my title.

Until next month…
Love and sparkles
Sam X

She Leaves A Sparkle | Karen Moss | Sparkle

Hello, hello - Karen here with my Sparkle layout.

For this page I used a Paige Taylor Evans cut file to cut some Silhouette double sided sheets and then added them to the same design, this time cut from card.

Once added I removed the top layer and added glitter .

I discovered that you can also use a glue pen to add adhesive to a shape and then add glitter - found this out when I tried it on the areas I had missed with the double sided sticky sheets.

Once I had glittered my flowers and title all that was needed was a few gems and sequins to finish my page.

You can see my process video of the making of this page here.

Born To Sparkle | Clair Matthews | Sparkle

Hi Scrap Addicts!

I'm so excited to be here sharing my first ever layout for the UKSA creative team..

Our theme for the month is 'Sparkle' which actually worked perfectly for me as I had these photos of my daughter at her prom to scrap & she's wearing the most sparkly, glittery prom dress you've ever seen..

When I began this layout I was planning to use this months free cutfile to make little star shaped shaker windows to put on my page, but if you check out my youtube process video you can see my layout took a slightly different turn..

..anyway, I'm still really chuffed with how it turned out & I hope it inspires you to make something with a little 'Sparkle' too..

Thanks for stopping by!

Everyday I'm Sparklin' | Lisa-Jane Johnson | Sparkle

Hey there Scrap Addicts!

I have to confess, I'm not a huge fan of glitter (don't hate me) but I've been meaning to try and make a shaker pocket for years (I'm not even kidding) so this month's sparkle challenge seemed like the ideal time to give it a go.

I wanted to scrap this photo of my daughter attempting to paint her nails and then I found the perfect  journalling card to go with it from Simple Stories Dream Big collection.  I planned the composition of the layout knowing that I wanted to use this month's free cut file as my shaker pocket down one side so I created the background first and then moved on to the tricky part!

I cut the star file on white cardstock as large as I could and then I backed it with clear acetate that I retrieved from the bin when I was on a scrappy retreat recently.  I went around all the edges of the die cut with foam tape and sprinkled some appropriately coloured sequins into the stars.  It felt good to finally get some sequins out of my stash and onto a page!

I used some of the unicorn paper to put a "lid" on the shaker pocket.  I tried to make sure that none of the unicorns were identifiable behind the sequins as I just wanted to use the colours in that paper rather than the images.  Once my shaker pocket was in place I could add some finishing touches of a few puffy stickers and another little sprinkle from the sequin mix.

Although my shaker took me a while as it was my first one, I'll definitely do it again.  It's a fun way to change up my layouts and use something sparkly without getting myself covered in glitter!

With love and colour

Make A Wish | Rebecca Meadows (Guest Designer) | Sparkle

Hello UK Scrap Addicts.

My name is Rebecca Meadows and I am really pleased to have been offered a guest designer slot for this month.

I have been wanting to scrap this photo for quite a while now and this months UKSA theme of "sparkle" is a perfect opportunity to use it.

I have used Carta Bella, Flower Market papers to make my layout. I love to fussy cut and these papers have a great selection of flowers that are perfect for this so this is where I started!

I had a layout plan in mind for this photo. I wanted the threaded sequins to represent coins being thrown into the fountain.

So, here is my process.....

Having fussy cut lots of flowers, I put these to one side while I began working on my background. I chose a pink patterned paper and cut two triangles from the sides. I roughed up the edges using a paper distressed and then marked our with a paper piercer where my thread and sequins would go.

I used a threaded needle to post the sequins on to, if you do this, be sure to check that the sequins will fit over the eye of the needle before continuing. I used a bit of washi tape to hold the thread at the back, then kept the stitches quite tight to help kept the sequins in place, a couple of the sequins still moved and grouped together so I added a small amount of glue to keep them in place.

Next, I added the pink paper to a piece of cardstock and stuck down my matted photo. I wanted similar flowers in each cluster to give a look of symmetry and used foam pads to add definition to some of the flowers. My title was an obvious choice and I think the sparkly alphas really finished off the layout.

Finally, I added pink and black mist to the background and some journalling strips.

I loved creating this layout. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. This months theme has been really inspiring and I hope you are having fun with it too.

Dream | Sarah Costain | Sparkle

Hi Sarah here today with my take on this months theme of Sparkles.

For my layout I used the beautiful Cosmic Galaxy kit by Thompsons Craft Supplies and a night sky dream theme.
The patterened paper was stunning on it own so I just added glittered galaxies and stars using a stencil and heavy body gel by Prima

My picture was layered on top of galaxy washi, holographic patterned paper and velum as well as tulle and white glittered cardstock.

I added the word dream across the bottom of my photo and lots of stars sequins and Nuvo Drops in glitter silver all over the page.

I finished my page with a few splashes of ink in various colours to match.

You can watch the video here for more details of how I created my layout this month.

Thanks for joining me and have a Happy Scrappy Day!!

Sparkle and shine | Elaine King | Sparkle

Good morning one and all

Today I am bringing you a layout using lots of sparkle as per our April Prompt... I hope you can join in too?

Firstly I took a sheet of sparkly pink glitter cardstock and used it as a mat for my trimmed down white card background. Now I don't know about you but I find sticking to glitter card is impossible...so to get around that I used wet acrylic glue..Pinflair in this instance.

Then I took my white card, purchased from Crafts4Eternity . I buy their card stock because they  stocks a 300gsm card that twists and warps far less when using wet mixed media.  I punched out three 'chomped' pieces of the border using a Martha Stewart punch.

I then drew three concentric circles with a sparkly Kaisercraft gel pen purchased from Merly Impressions. These are my 'Go To' pens for journalling and anything sparkly. I then drew random little hearts using the same pen along the three lines of the circles and added lots of sequins.

Finally I matted the photograph and added a piece of Unicorn paper (and one other) from the Dream Big collection from Simple Stores that I got from Hey Little Magpie using some of the ephemera from the collection too. I raised the photo up on foam pads for extra dimension.

Hey presto, one quick and easy layout with lots of sparkle. I do hope this inspires you to give our prompt a try..have fun!

Sunshine and Sparkles | Sarah Kentzer (Guest Designer) | Sparkle

We're really excited to be introducing Guest Designers to the team each month and this month we even have 2 joining us!

First up we have Sarah Kentzer and here at UKScrapAddicts we were excited to see what Sarah would come up with for our monthly theme of Sparkle!

Over to you Sarah.....

I'm a big fan of Crate Paper collections and I treated myself to some of the new Maggie Holmes, Sunny Days collection. It has lots of lovely colours and gold foiled papers. When I heard the theme I would be working with was Sparkle, I had in mind the perfect photo to scrapbook.

I created this layout about my daughter whilst she was wearing her sparkly sunglasses and sequinned top which she loved. From the Sunny Days collection, I used the stickers and some die cuts from the ephemera pack. I also did some fussy cutting which always stretches any collection.

I even managed to add the world "Sparkle" into my title! This layout was all finished off with some splatters of gold paint and a scattering of sequins.

Here at UKScrapAddicts we want to thank Sarah for being a Guest Designer for us this month and we love the layout she has created. Thanks for joining us Sarah - it's been our pleasure!
