White Night | Kirei Baldwin | Using Punches

Hi UK Scrap Addicts!

Kirei here again sharing a layout focused on this month's theme which was to use punches on a layout... and like quite a few of the Creative Team I also have plenty of punches to use!

I decided on creating some layered shapes so pulled out three sizes of square punches - 2", 1 3/4" and 1 1/2".

Then I pulled out a mix all my Crate Paper Maggie Holmes stash and looked for patterned papers that went together. From these I punched out squares to layer up across the page.

I mounted my photo with a few layers as well and tucked a few of the layered squares under each edge. Along the edge of each layered square I added some cross stitches in a matching colour.

To finish off I added a title and some journaling.

There is always lots of fab inspiration for the monthly theme from the rest of the Creative Team on the blog! So why don't you pull out those punches and join in with this month's 'Use punches' theme.... don't forget to share your layouts over on the UK Scrap Addicts Facebook page as we love to see what you create!

Thanks for looking, happy scrapping!

Feeling All The Feels | ScrappyNerdUK (Claire) | Punches

I almost gave myself a triple challenge this month. Not only did I use punches (which is our theme this month) but I also challenged myself to use up scraps and incorporate more than one shape in my layout.

Here is how I got on.

I pulled out 4 circle punches for this one. I used a 3inch, 2 inch, 1 inch and 1/2 inch. From my scraps I punched first the largest and then used the next size down until all of my scraps were punched.

I then arranged this down the left side of the page. It was apparent that I didn't have enough larger circles and so I also punched out a couple of circles from vellum which is a great alternative to help fill up blank areas.

Next I chose my photo. This is generally how I scrap and tend to get started with my layout before I then choose my photo. I chose a snapchat picture of me and a friend and just loved all the pretty pinks  from the Dream Big collection from Simple Stories that I knew this photo was right for my layout.

I added in some stickers from the sticker sheet, a few tiny word stickers mainly. I also added in some chipboard stickers from an older Dear Lizzy collection.

So that's 2 challenges done, punches and scraps. Next up was bringing in another shape to work alongside the circles. I chose to go with a square as my photo was square. I decided to use the little 2x2 cut apart from the Dream Big collection and nestled 3 of these into the circle layers.

Finally was my title. I again used a different collection for these. I used the Thicker stickers from Amy Tangerine On A Whim collection and just love the sentiment "Feeling All The Feels".

And a few little flourishes with stickers and chipboard pieces and these layout was finished in about half an hour!!

Love Forever / Jackie Ashton / Punches

Hi scrappers, Jackie here with my layout for this month using punches.  I do have a passion for punches especially circle punches, but I decided to step away from ones that I use on a regular basis, and chose another design, so I choose to use some of my heart punches.

As it February and we have just had Valentine's Day, I decided that I would do a ‘love layout’ of my hubby, son and myself.

I’ve used a heart punch, which I punched the heart shapes out of several patterned paper, and layered them together.

To give them some dimension I only stuck the paper down in the centre, so that the outside edges could be raised off the page.

I added some hand stitching down the centre and left the ends of the thread trailing down.

I also added machine stitching in gold thread on my white cardstock, behind where I placed the hearts, and added some 'xo' wood veneers and puffy hearts in-between the paper hearts.

I had the perfect title from Bramble Fox prespextive, which I added some patterned paper to the back to allow the word to be more readable on top of my photograph.

That all from me for this month, don't forget we would love to see your layouts using punches over on our Facebook page.

Thanks for stopping by..

Happy scrapping ...

You Colour My World | Punches| Karen Moss

Hello, hello - Karen here with this months theme which is of course punches.

Now, I have a serious addition to punches and have lots and lots and lots - in fact, an embarrassingly large number!  So this months challenge was an easy one.

I started by cutting a doily shape on my Silhouette and decided to add punched strips to the centre of my doily - something I have seen on many pages lately.

I then punched out lots of flowers and leaves from lots of different papers and added these to the bottom right of my page and the top left.

I added some gems to the centre of the flowers (these were an absolute bargain - £1.00 from The Works).

To finish I added a title, made on my Silhouette.

I have a video of how this page came together here.

Don't forget to check out the other projects using punches on our YouTube channel, blog, Instagram and Facebook pages.

Traveller's Notebook | Punches | Lisa-Jane Johnson

Hi there crafty friends, it's Lisa-Jane on the blog today with something a but unusual for me - a traveller's notebook!  In fact three double page spreads.  I might have got carried away with my punches...

Punches are brilliant to use on TN spreads because they really do pack a punch (do you see what I did there...)  The extra small scale of the pages mean that a little bit of pattern goes a long way so using a punch helps to get variation to the shapes you can use.  In the first spread I've used a scalloped circles cut in half to create some interest to the border.

For my second spread I used the same scalloped circle to create a rough line on a slight diagonal to draw the eye down the page.  The punches help give continuity and allow little splashes of the same papers to be spread through several pages.

This whole traveller's notebook is going to be a mini album of a Go Go Getaway retreat where Shimelle was the guest designer so I'm using lots of Glitter Girl papers but in small splashes throughout the book.

My final spread used a scalloped border punch to create a layered section in the bottom half of the page which fades from dark patterned papers through to lighter ones.

The punched edges add some interest to what would otherwise just be strips of paper with the bonus of not adding a lot of extra bulk which is obviously prime consideration with a TN.

This challenge has really got me thinking about my poor neglected punches again and I'd forgotten how versatile they are!  They are definitely going to get much more quality time on my desk from now on!

With love and colour

Choose to Shine | Punches | Sarah Costain

Sarah here today with my layout using punches.

I don't own all that many punches, but for some reason I have about 6 different sized star punches!! So that was my starting point for my layout.

I applied clear gesso to my page which was a night sky scene from a kit by Thompson's Crafts available here. The gesso helps my page withstand any mixed media I throw at it.

I punched out various sized stars from mirror card and the left over trimmings from my photo. I added these on top of a silver texture paste and spray background.

To frame my photo I matted it on more mirror card and added a glitter embossed frame.
I cut apart words from another paper from the kit to create tiny word stickers and quotes.

Some sweet kawaii stickers, nuvo drops and sequins added more sparkle to my page to finish it off.

You can check out the video process over on the UKSA YouTube channel here.

I hope you will dust of those punches and give this challenge a whirl!!
Have a Happy Scrappy day :)

Chilly Day: Punches: Elaine King

Good morning everyone!

I hope today is a little warmer than when this photo was taken! Brrr!

Anyway, today I am bringing you a layout created using some of my punches. It was nice to dig them out again..It is something I often overlook..how about you?

To start with I chose this collection of Simple Stories, Winter Wonderland. Sticking with the UK Scrap Addicts January theme of No Cardstock.. (I know, I know, its the Feb prompt I'm supposed to be promoting..lol) I started with a piece of the wood grain paper to use as my background. I bought this collection a while back now from Pretty My Page..the shop run by our very own creative team member Lisa-Jane. Se still has a little left in stock..and they are reduced..woohoo! She is moving over to concentrate on her fantastic cut files now so there are bargains to be had!

Anyway..back to the layout.. I then took some long pieces of patterned paper and punched along the edge of the longest piece. I then layered them along the left hand side adding a piece at right angles along the bottom and adding some punched tags tucked under he top at the far left.

Next I mounted the photo and used foam tape to lift it off the page for added dimension.

Once this was placed I punched little bunting flags and added it to some bakers twine along the bottom.
I then punched several snowflakes and scattered them around the edges of the photo and added several stickers from the collection too.

Quite a simple layout but I managed to use four different punches..shown here.

Why not have a go yourself and let me know you've got on?

Have fun

A sunny day in June | Punches | RamblingsofGeo

Hello every one,

Welcome to february 11th! - how are we in february already?!

I'm using a photo from June last year when i attended a GoGo Getaway Retreat, and happened to have a mini UK Scrap Addict photo session it a couple of the other girls who were also attending.

For this layout i used the new Mindthescrap February Kit which is very, very pretty.

I used the 12x12 paper by Maggie Holmes called Parasol from the Sunny Days collection.

I took a 2 inch punch to the parasols and punched them out to make a bright summer background to my photo. I used my Travellers notebook which is to document the summer of 2018.
i

I have also used the Amy Tangerine sticker book from her Sweet Life collection to do my title, and the little heart.

Explore | Punches | Amy Kattenbelt

As you might have seen, this month over on UK Scrap Addicts we are using our punches to create our layouts. I don't own many punches, I prefer to use dies as they take up less storage space. However i do own a small selction of punches from when i first started scrapbooking. It was really fun to get them out and use them again. The Martha Stewart butterfly punch used to be one of my go to items and appears on my many of my older layouts.

Punches are great to be used on scraps. I have recently sorted out all my scraps into coloured bags, so i decided to make a rainbow layout.

Do check out my process video over on our YouTube channel to see this page being created.

Thanks for reading, and do pop on over to our Facebook group where you can share all the layouts you create this month using punches.
